Well we are only just over 3 weeks out from the event! So much to organise, so little time!

But as well as the 15+ tracks we have now marked, we have organised for onsite catering by way of a food caravan. There is nothing like a burger in between stages!

The Rotorua chapter of the Lions Club will be looking after spectator marshaling and donating the proceeds of the gate takings to the Rotorua Community Hospice. A great cause.

We are also in discussions about the onsite security so I will hopefully have an update on that soon.

Cheers - see you at the event!

Hope not  Looking at how tight it was with Leightons truck taking it pretty easy ,the trees wont stand a chance once the Nissans get angry :) It could end up like a game of ping pong if its wet>

Yep, drivers should be in control of their vehicles as we don't really want trees damaged.

I'm up there this weekend so will have a look. Rest assured, a common sense approach will be applied as we want to see competitive racing.

Just to follow on from Dan. We have no current rule in place about tree damage. We've only just decided to run the event as we feel we have enough numbers.

Yes the event will run!!! We have enough entries to cover our estimated costs. Always looking for sponsorship to help build up the prizes. Send me a PM if interested.

Back to the tree damage. We are working with the TECT park to develop these sorts of boundaries. This is a plantation forest so keeping the trees alive is pretty important. As Dan said it will be a common sense approach. If you wanna play pinball with your truck then you could be penalised.

I'm assuming the comment about the tracks are too narrow was made from the short vid clip. The footage was taken accross three stages and really only shows a snaphot of terrain where we had cut across open forest. Most of the terrain is quite open skidder tracks where a 10 tonne machine has already dragged some trees down it.

The committee has decided to open up the track clearing this Sunday to the general winch challenge following.
If you wanna come along and check out our tracks and maybe test out your trucks. Come along this Sunday 26th of June.

We will be leaving from the BP on Fairy Springs Rd Rotorua at 8.30 am or meet at the TECT All Terrain Park info centre at 9 am.

We'll make you day members of the club and you can give us a hand to clear some more tracks and test drive a few. We know how important it is to have the tracks fully run in before race day.

Send me a PM or a shout on this page to let me know who's coming. Your name, vehicle make and Rego would help speed up the paper work on our end. If your wanting to help out with marshalling then come on down too.

Please bring some track clearing gear. If you wanna use a chainsaw then please bring the appropriate safety equipment.
Stubbies, jandels and a Stihl wont cut it.

Cheers

I take it that you wont be running trucks through the stages as they will be pegged for the comp?

Not really sure what you mean? We will run the trucks over the tracks they we are clearing to race on. Does that help?

I think what Madaz is asking. Are competing trucks going to be going through the stages before the comp?
Comp rig: Suzuki Vitara, L67 Supercharged V6 Commie and auto, Prado chassis and diffs. Gigglepin 8274 twin motor rear mounted winch, air free spools, 35" Silverstones, ect

Not really a problem is it? Someones got to do it "I my self would much rather they were driven even if it was by
competitors.
At the end of the day its not really any advantage ,having pre conceived ideas can get you in the sh#t big time :)

Exactly. Our thoughts on it were the same. And to be as fair as possible, we thought it best to open it up to all. It will just be one or two trucks running through each stage to ensure they are clear though. And it won't be every stage as a number are already done.

If you can't make it tomorrow, we will also be there next weekend and will probably extend the same invite.

We could pretend it's just like Pukekohe. Think of it as warm up laps.
This way no one can give the competitors from the local club a hard time for setting and testing the tracks.

Feel free to bring video camera's as any footage is of use to us for promo work.

Yep. Scruitineering finishes at 11. Drivers briefing is at 11:30, racing starts at 12.

Today was such a long day out at the TECT park. We managed to clear another 6 stages, 2 of which were night stages. One of the stages in particular has a massive climb which will have the navi's working. So that takes the total cleared to 13.

5 to go!

Hey Dumbass.

We have made a decision regarding tree damage.

There will be a 10 point penalty for hitting trees. There will be a DNS for deliberate or excessive tree damage.

I hope that helps.

I almost forgot about track clearing for the coming weekend.

We would like to open this up to the winch challenge following out there again.

Saturday and Sunday. We'll be meeting 8.30 am at BP on Fairy Springs Rd or 9am at the TECT info centre.

Remember if you bring a chainsaw then please bring safety gear. If you wanna test out some tracks for us we'd be more than happy.

Cheers

What classes as "hitting" a tree?
Is that any contact at all? or just delibertly running into them?
And is it all trees or just plantation pines?

Hitting a tree can be as little as rubbing up against it while winching or bouncing into one while on the track.
If we end up with a tree that everyone hits then either everyone is penalised or no one is penalised depending on a marshal being present. This cancels out the penalty created by this tree.

The deliberate or excessive is when someone keeps charging a tree hoping it will get out of the way. This usually happens with a steering failure and playing pinball with the trees trying to get back before a DNF.

Hope that clears that one up. Kinda.

So I guess panel damage wont be a problem them as you will have pegged the tracks to protect the trees then.

A bit of an update. All the tracks are now cleared with about a third also marked up and ready to race on. This weekend we'll be marking up the rest and finishing things off. A huge effort from a regular few got this done so massive thanks to them. These guys (and gals) have given up their weekends continuously for the last few weeks to set and clear some awesome tracks. Wicked effort and really appreciated!!!

We just need some marshals now to stand around them! Speaking of which, marshal training will be this Sunday kicking off at 9am from the visitors center. No experience is required as we'll be running through what you'll need to know so if you know someone who might be interested - send them along and get them involved.

Also, we have confirmed security onsite for the event equipment which means competitors can leave their gear if they choose to but obviously this is at your own risk. We can talk about this more up there if you have questions.

We are definitely on the count down now with the event happening next week!!! With rain forecast for this week and next the tracks should be 'interesting'

See you next week!

Dan
