Whats best?
Prior Preperation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. My Solution: Build a Tougher Truck
Re: Whats best?
I used 75mm UHMWPE rod (35mm high for the cab , 50mm high for the tray) on my Lux.
Can cut it with woodworking tools. (used radial arm saw to rough cut and faced to length (and drilled holes) on an old lathe.
Turned out mint.

Re: Whats best?
Steel or ally, plastic will deform if your chassis tries to stop and you body wants to keep going = bent bolts.
Don't know why people use plastic and then wonder why body bolts bend, fatigue then snap.

Yes, flex in the right places is important, think about how side loading a long bolt through a soft material regardless of how it fastened at the end (rubber mount).
