Hey dude if it wasnt the plug on the transfer case theres 2 other plugs to check.

If u slide under the front of the truck you will see a plug on the front of the front diff and one on the back of the diff.

Check these are ok, maybe follow the wires up and check they are still in good condition (the wiring goes up into the loom by the factory air box).

Failing that check all the air lines on the altinator and the little air control box (not sure of its proper name  ) which is under the drivers side wheel arch if you look up inside it you will see it.

Try turn the key into "ON" but dont start the truck, Press the 4wd button and see if you can hear the solenoid putting it into 4wd. If you cant hear it then I would say its a faulty plug/wiring.

Good luck

ok,just slid under it, can see the plug in the front but theres no plug in the back next to the pinion area..
i followed the 2 wires up from the front plug and 2 of the wires have been cut off..
so i assume the rear plug is missing..

anyone got this part of the loom spare for me?

need from the quare 4 wire plug down to the 2 2-wire plugs for the front and rear of the front diff...

hopefully thatll get it sorted...

turn the key on but dont start the truck and the dash lights up, When you push the button in does it make a clicking noise like its going into gear now??

Cause if it does your electric engager for 4wd in the back of transfer is dead, if it does then jack up the front left of truck and try turning the wheel if it doesnt turn you have 4wd just your 4wd light ant working which is no big stress, hope this helps

Chances are you engaged has packed the ghost.

one plug on it is just for the 4wd light the bottom plug pull that off and check if there power coming down the wires when buttons in.

so ive been told the front plug is for the ADD and rear plug is a oil temp...

i tested the ADD plug, has 11.6v constant, regardless of the button being pushed...

all vac lines seem to be ok.
both front and rear driveshafts turn together like an lsd, cant turn them independantly...so the issue seems to be with the front diff area...

other than that im lost....

i unbolted the thingy on the back of the transfer case, and the front shaft could turn independantly from the rear..

i have no idea if theres a fuse for the system or not.
ive bridged the plug terminals from the front plug and the light came on, i shifted the high-low into neutral and the light went out, then back on when it went into either high or low...

what triggers the front diff to engage? is it a relay or vac? and what triggers the vac??

it is all vacum for the front diff, check all the vacum lines from the acuators on the gaurd down to tank to the diff,

have a look on www.toyotasurf.asn.au there is a lot of info about things to check and do on there

have checked out as many threads as i could and still cant get it to work..

ive replaced the loom section that was missing.
that didnt solve it.
ive popped the transfer case motor off and tested it, the motor works fine.

ive swapped the vac lines over on the front diff and it goes into 4x4 mode with light on..

so now what?? would it be the black box in front of the gear stick/under the stereo??

if i unplug the vac solenoid things behind the battery one clicks when i plug it in the other doesnt, is this normal??
