This thread is now over.
But thanks for all the feedback and the pointers guys. I've really appreciated it.
I've test driven a few 40s. Haggled on the price of one or two but didn't end up buying one.
I guess I'm getting older because the last one I drove i found myself asking the question. As cool as the 40's are. "Do they offer me all the comforts I need in a 4X4 in my late 40's for a everyday runner about?"
My situation is.
I have kids 4 hours north from me where I have a caravan and a boat parked. I visit them often. I needed a 4X4 parked there to move them about. So i brought the 97 Jeep which was cheap and does what it was brought for well.
At home I have a souped up Holden. But Chch doesn't have to many flat roads any more. I'd rather be driving round in a beaten up old car everyday for a run around and save my Holden for the days i want to get a, "go fast V8 fix" out of my blood stream. But I hate using the Holden to tow the offroad buggy to events or anywhere coz I end up grading the gravel roads to get to the spots.

And a beaten up banger car doesn't tow the buggy well. I thought, I need another FJ40.
But want I ended up buying today was, another 97 Jeep for the same budget as what I had for the fj40. $5000. But the difference between the comfort of the Jeep and the 40 is huge.
I'm getting old fellas.
But I still love driving my brothers V8 FJ40.
It's like nothing has changed since driving his 40 for the first time.
But buying the Jeep was a practicable choice for this old bugger.
Thanks again for all your input fellas.
Please don't dis me for the Jeep choice.
