Re: cert???
Getsum, why do you need 3 trucks, each lifted over 100mm, for a farm?

Re: cert???
staff have one each..theyr cheaper to buy than quads and use less fuel.
we have been told by the local constabulary that we need wofs on our vehicles while moving stock on the rd...farm reg just makes rego cheaper, doesnt exclude you from wof requirements,so the cop told me..

Re: cert???
More keen to know why all over 100mm lift?
Farm reg is allowed between farms and or within a certain distance of home isn't it? They do still ned to be not heaps of crap ie lights all work etc etc I think.

i'd say the cops are more keen to get your stock off the roads than your vehicles. The days of moving stock in that way are well and truly numbered, so pressure applied, in any way, is the norm. Joining a 4WD club is not going to help with that one. Who moves stock up the roads any more? Herd of underpasses?
Re: cert???
Not all of us are loaded dairy kingpins haha. Even with the subsidies they aren't cheap by any means. But yes they will eventually become compulsary.
The townies moaning about shit on their cars should've just stayed in town. Thats all I hear about at our meetings.

i get farmers from Invercargill ringing up for water trucks to spray the roads clean after the herd crossees. They say its getting reallly tough down there.
Underpasses are expensive, yes. but they add huge desirability and capital value to the now joined properties, so its only a temporary setback. Everyone knows farming is a lifestyle choice (and a good one) and the real money's only made when the farm is finally sold. Which is when the money spent on the underpass is a good thing.
As for staff needing a bloody truck nancy boys and girls, i was one of the last real or actual drovers in the north Island. The biggest herd i took, and there were many, was 1200 head of cattle from Ararata near Hawera (Taranaki? Ben Hurley?) to Taumatamaire Station in Awakino (King Country? Colin Meads?).
7 - 14 miles per day, three weeks or more and i did it all on foot. Not because i wanted to, but i wouldn't ride a horse and my old man wouldn't give me a motorbike to use. Bastard! but now he's dead and i've gone and got every bike and bloody truck i want. I did most of it on my Pat Malone too, just me and the dogs. That was before 1974 and I was 16/17, in case you wondered. if you don't believe me, and that's possible, TV1 was there to record some of it and it'll be in their archives for sure.
Re: cert???
osh would go nuts if i made the boys walk the stock up the rd
cant exactly carry stocks signs and a flashing light..
underpass cant be used in this case as the other farm is not just across the rd...
but as far as im concerned its all sorted now...

No, you use trucks to move cattle 20km down the road. They are called "Cattle trucks", maybe you've seen one. You only use an underpass to move stock accross a road silly!
That is what the police want done and the government or relevant authorities have been working towards for 40 years, which is what i said. I didn't say it was right or wrong. I did say I'd experienced moving big cattle herds down roads though. Herd of reading before typing?

using a stock truck for this that can only fit 40 cows on it is f-n ridiculous..
obviously you lot would go broke in the first year of farm ownership if you have the chance to run one..
Swamped, can i have some popcorn too?? cos this is becoming a comedy thread...

Re: cert???
Ok, I have a plan: you walk the cows up the road, maybe borrow a farmbike if need be. That way you can save money in fuel etc, and save up to get a cert for each vehicle. May take a while, but it'll work

Re: cert???
You're a bit rude you southern farming types? Luckily I know from experience you're in a minority of two. It seems obvious that if by some remote chance you do own a farm as opposed to being after school workers then your Daddies worked and bought them for you.
How can you keep missing the point? I'll say for the third time, its official government policy to remove all stock from our roads, whether the move is 2 meters or 2 km or 20km. I didn't ring Sir Keith holyoake and tell him it was a good idea boys? Its called progress and people who progress are called progressive. Others are called chicanes or speed bumps and get about as much attention.

Re: cert???
shit were going to have to get Mike to set up a "Cow Cockies Forum" on the site so these jokers can talk about all their cows and mustering and stuff so we dont end up with the "New Members and beginers" forum getting too clogged up

Re: cert???
Im finding this really funny.. Its pretty simple, they work on a dairy farm, Have several workers, with no time to walk around a farm...., so they need vehicles, which are 3 suzukis because thats best suited for them. Its not going to be practical to have 1 and share it around. And as said, moving stock on a stock truck 2kms down the road is going to be a stupidly unnecessary cost. Kinda pissing me off that people seem to know more about these farmers than the farmers themselves.....
Re: cert???
what we really want to know is why all three suzuki's need more than 100mm of lift and how they all get WOF's without a cert?

Whats even more simple is the fact that he has stated he runs 30" tyres, so why would you need to lift a Suzuki more than 100mm for farm work? If it isn't lifted more than that, there would be no need for joining a club, if it's over, just drop it, surely under 100mm lift will still get you round the farm?

I think they're this little baby Suzuki trucks, not Jimnys or Escudos or whatever. Their under chassis ground clearance is pretty ordinary so they need to get them up a bit.
For some reasons a bit hard to figure out its our fault if they need to get a cert for it and our fault the Government doen't think stock should be on the roads. It might not make sense to truck cattle 2km up the road, but then it makes less sense to buy a place where you need to do that.
Our (family) station is 5000 acres and has probably 3-4km of road running right through the middle of it but its a very rarely used gravel road - except when the main road is closed for some reason. I know what he means, but the 4WD community didn't cause our problems. I also take offence at their assumption that because we're members of this forum and the Association we must be townies who don't understand cockies.
Its that kind of attitude which does nothing for their industry, wealthy, important or otherwise. It should also be noted that most dairying in the deep south, if that's the area in question, has been a relatively recent development so its likely the rules were well in place before the need arose.
So settle down you Southern boys, you have no idea who you're slagging off and whether they are farmers like you claim to be or otherwise.

Too bad, follow the debate and not your own prejudices, answer the questions, prove your point, if you have one, or all you'll prove is that vacuous is a familiar state.
I think long termers on here know, if you want to have a crack, make sure you're not coming to a battle of wits unarmed.
