What are people's thoughts on this please

What sort of power would a 2L petrol like this have?
Diesel vs Petrol. I know all the costs etc associated with this comparison, but I don't know performance offroad. Torque is better in a diesel? And more torque is what we all aim for? River crossings are better in a diesel? However a petrol will handle water in the engine whereas a diesel will not?
Can't wait to read your thoughts.
Cheers

If its a standard 2 litre toyota motor, I would have thought that it would be under powered.
If you know someone up that way, get them to give it a good look over, as it has been well used by the look of it.
I wouldn't really take into account which motor can handle water ingestion as its not good for either, and if you intend doing ANY water crossing, put a snorkel on.
Perhaps some of the yota boys may be of more help (rokhound etc)

I have the 2.2 4y motor in mine when it gets wet (read I so something stupid) it drops a cylinder but never stopped in a river I have a canvas blind for pushing up river and it goes OK even when over bonet depth.
It is under powered but mine I an thinking of supercharging for off road, they are not the most efficient engine but if tuned not too bad, and you can run LPG if you want around town 100km is ok but you wont be passing anyone.
I will probibly swap when the engine dies but it is 300,000 and still strong
I thought it would have died especialy th e fact I am driving it with a cracked piston skirt
I say go for it but think of a supercharger or engine swap in the future, I will do a 3.0 turbo diesel.

from what ive heard they 3y (2L petrol) are gutless and use a heap of gas but are reliable as hell. would make simila power to the 2.4 diesel. with 33s on ull be in low first for most things id imagine. if you were looking at a conversion in the future then would be ok. will still go places with FA power.

If you were to look at getting a standard truck and adding rear locker, front locker, Rancho shocks, 33in tires, Warn winch and the other bits and pieces, it would cost you a few $$$.
A good tidy reliable solid axle Hilux is going to be worth about 2.5-3k. Add the mods above and you would easily go over the 6.5k asking price.
If you could get it for $5800 it would be a good deal. Another $1200 and you could do a 6cyl petrol repower or 5k and do a Lexus repower.
Matt.

Rule 1.
The cost of the mods always ends up exceeding the cost of the truck
Rule 2.
No project ever came in on time or under budget.
