Initial thoughts on Methanol injection.
Hi All.
I just got my water/meth injection setup connected and I thought it would just have a bit of a play to see what would happen If i just had fuel going in (methanol) to try and get a bit more power.
Set it all up to get a dose of alcohol @15psi and took it for a road test.
When I got it out onto the road i just cruised through 1st and 2nd keeping below 15psi but when I got to 3rd i gave it the berries, the boost gauge swung around to its normal 20psi then all of a sudden the engines tone changed and the boost gauge hammered off the end of the scale and i was on my way!!
While trying to keep my truck on the road i did notice my EGT's went up to 600 DEG c which I thought was normal considering I am spraying pure methanol.
On my second run I saw the over-boost light turn on (the one on my boost gauge) then BANG.... HISS..
I pulled over but not to worry it was just an intercooler hose popping off. Now I need to find a way to keep these on, and Im going to reduce the methanol water ratio to about 50/50.
So far so good.

Oh, Its a LN130 with a 5L, Water to air intercooler, 3" exhaust, GT35r/to4e hybrid turbo 30+ Psi boost now

Ive run it my truck for 7months, did a dyno run last week with the system on got 24 hp 48 Ft lbs of torque at the wheels that was only with a 50/50 mix and size 3 nozzle one of the best mods for a diesel

Awesome, did you run the injection setup in conjunction with an intercooler as well?
How much did your EGTs go down with the setup?
did you up your fuel/ boost?

I just finished installing my coolingmist system in the weekend.
Do you guys have any problems with water weaping out the push lock fittings?? I get some out of the one way valve. also used about 2l of water for a 20min drive giving it death.the nosel i was given is good for 200-300hp it might be to big but the truck doesent bog down any thoughts.

still running with no wastegate?
i suspect so which is why boost went up and why egt's went up.
that IC will be one big bottle neck

check you hose ends. if i remember rightly the ends need to be fairly flush.
depending on setup, nozzle and on point, water usage can be huge. 2l for 20min is not to bad.
i have received my WI setup but currently still getting motor back into the surf so it will be a while before i get around to fitting it.

You do not need to up the fuel as you are running 50% methanol, my
EGTs went down to 250d at 100 km, which is 100d colder, the thing I like about it is it keeps your engine like brand new with the steam cleaning it does as you drive,
have order a size 4 nozzle so will be back to the dyno

Na everything water tight on my kit what size nozzle is it? they all have the size on them, if its not bogging down go bigger nozzle

It is a coolmisting size 5 good for 200-300hp my motor is only a td27t making around 120hp. i thought this injector would be a bit over kill. Boost is at 14psi this is the max we can get out of it, I think the waste gate is getting forced open.water is set to come on about 7-8 psi

Dude, i had a similar problem @17psi so i put a helper spring to keep it closed..
Have you got a big exhaust and intercooler yet?

Nice Ive just ordered a size 4 maybe I should have got the size 5 nozzle my truck is making real good power on size 3 nozzle,ive got the progressive controller, have you just got the Hobbs psi switch?

Im currently using a 100cc nozzle with a pressure switch @ 10 psi.
Im going to try and set up another nozzle in my inlet manifold to just inject pure methanol depending on ow this works out.

with this much air going through i'd be seriously thinking about getting a bigger cooler fiited as this will be a big restrictor. A massive front mount is as good as any. esp if not in the mud much. That'll be why you popping hoses off.

actually im probably popping hoses off because im running almost 40PSI. the hose that was the culprit was actually after the intercooler, but Ive got a front mount hopefully on the way.

Sounds like you need some proper intercooler clamps they never come of, 40 PSI thats sick what you running

I still need to do a intercooler setup and exhaust. Water meths is just to be on the safe side for now exhaust temps were getting to 600 deg.

sorry to jump in but where do u get the kits/ methanol from? geussing you can use tap water? Easy enough for any mechanic to fit in?

Hey mate just google it their a lot of kits out their, all seem to do the same thing,I run a devilsown kit, great support with theses guys they have their own forum, and are really quick to get back to you, I dyno my truck on a size 3 nozzle and got 24hp and more important 48 ft-lp of torque, and got new bigger nozzles on the way

There is also a guy that sell coolingmist setups on trademe i have one of those kits. meths is very exspensive where do other members get there meths from and the cost??

started brewing my own ethanol from waste product from work.
now need a still to be able to clean it.

Windshield wiper fluid in most countries contains methanol or ethanol, might want to look into that.

I hope your not running 100% methanol on a turbo diesel. You should keep the mix to 50/50 or less 100% methanol will give your engine a very short life, You'll pop a head gasket or crack a head.

I know a guy who has been running 100% methanol for at least 2 years into his TD27 still goes mint. As long as you have sufficient air to keep the engine cool it will be fine. and if you saw my turbo, sufficient air isnt a problem.
Oh and im looking now at using water/ methanol injection just as a intercooler between my turbo and supercharger (when it goes on.)..
