5mge hilux install.

Post by hiluxsurfer »

Planning on dropping a 5mge into my 84 solid axle surf. Does anyone know where I can find a loom, ecu and bell housing adapter to suit my W series box. And will the standard sump clear my steering? I am located in west auckland.
Cheers.

Seach the site, all the info is here.

For the loom and ecu you're best to get it it out of the vehicle donating the engine.
The bellhousing you need is a W58 from a manual 5M engined Celica or Cressida, or cut and weld front of 5m auto bellhousing to the rear half of a hilux one. (This is what I have in my Surf)
If you have a diesel surf then you can get the 5M engine to sit on the factory diesel engine mounts and it will clear your steering.
In a petrol surf make the mounts to suit.

You may find a 50mm body lift helps, i think it is needed if you re use the diesel engine mounts.

as smurf said, except I think all the cressidas are auto, you need a bell from a celica 2.8 manual, rocking horse shit these days but still around... a 4M mid bowl sump and oil pick up bolt straight on, do it or you WILL blow the big end bearings when offroading.
good luck

rob-mu How much would you take for the bell housung adapter? and the engine is already out of the donor vehicle so I don't have loom or ecu. Are there any wreckers that anyone knows of that specialise with supras? Cheers.

And the original engine is diesel so I will be using the existing engine mounts. The surf currently has a 30mm body lift but I will be installing a 50mm to compensate for the 5mge.

You could try spartan toyota spares in takanini. They are redneck faggots but might have what you need. Theres also a good toyota wrecker in glenfield but cant remember their name.

Other than that, sign-up on toyspeed and put a wanted ad.
