Rear Crank seal Leaking

Post by Hombrey »

Guys I had a leak in the rear crank seal meaning I had oil getting through to the flywheel. Picked it up and had the shop fix it. That was about 6 - 8 months ago. Today I thought I felt the clutch slipping under load so I'm under there and another drip of oil coming out of the gear box same place!! God dam!! Course I'll be going back to the shop but is there any other reason other than fitment that could cause this to happen a second time so soon? Oil changes etc have been regular? Just worried this is gonna continue.

could have a groove in the back of the crank, where the seal runs.

Hmm ok. Well I did wonder about the gearbox seal but they did that at the same time as the rear seal last time to be sure. The sealant on the bolts thing sounds like a maybe. Will get the shop to check but sounds like I'm up for a clutch as well as this one slipped under load about 4 weeks after getting the seal done last time pulling a tandem with about a ton on it. The clutch was fitted just before I bought it and suppose to be heavy duty but have turboed since then so maybe need to replace this as well while its apart as worried some oil may have got to it.

One other thing. If I replace the clutch what are people running behind their turbo TD42's? There are a bunch of heavy duty clutch kits on tm ranging from $359 to $550 all saying ok for the TD42T. Which ones are really Heavy Duty? I need to pull a heavy tandem kinda regularly so want something that will last.

ask if they used a genuine rear main seal.
most aftermarket ones will start to leak quicker then genuine. and depending how they put it in.
i normaly put some grease on them so they slide in easyer and are lubed for start up. only a thin layer/amount
another d21 terrano
ex lancer build

There are only two clutches I would trust behind an after market turbo conversion.
The Safari Tuff made by Exedy

And RPM 4Terrain made by Clutch industries.

I have found any other heavy duty clutch is not heavy duty enough. Make sure you get the fly wheel skimmed for the new clutch installation.
