As my truck is starting to look like worth stealing I want to get a alarm asap.As I plan to do a bit of remote 4wding I dont want to have to worry about flat batterys etc.Is there anything I should be looking at getting done to prevent this?
Any models I should be looking at?I want one that has a built in turbo timer
Cheers
Rob

Re: Alarms
if your not going to put it in your self make sure your learn how its wired and know how to by-pass it. Keep a cheap pair of cutters and some crimps/chocky block/tape in ya glove box. Not good when your miles from anywhere and you drown your alarm and can't start ya truck.
Thats mongoose one looks like a good price

Re: Alarms
they are usually pretty good if the control box is tucked right up under the dash instead of in the engine bay. The ones i have seen give problems are the ones that "arm" themselves (you know the ones that everytime you turn ya rig off you have to push the alram before you start it again) its better to get one that only arms when you want it to and then you obviously never arm it offroad when your trucks just popped out of a river and stalled

Re: Alarms
chuck a kill switch in it then if goes underwater no dramas otherwise you'll be stuggling with lots of spaghetti to try to find out why it died in a deep river and immobilised. are alarms even waterproof?
jus get one of these

Re: Alarms
alarms only disable an engine one or two ways. very easy to bypass if you know where to look. so you may need something a bit more like fuel cutoff etc.
if its got an ECU you can do a few more things.

that makes it difficult as they are easy to get going. great for the bush, lousy to stop someone else getting it going.
i have heard of putting a fuel valve in with cable running into cab for on/off. one nice one is electric fence unit wired into the seats.
you don't want to forget to turn it off before sitting down

or an exhaust brake or inlet butterfly with hidden switch.
if you have valuables inside need to get an alarm that has an internal sensor. otherwise they just remove the windows and grab all the gear.
