2011 Hurunui Winch Comp Video

Post by petefj40 »

I got a few video clips from my helmet camera from this event. Most will only be 1 minute long and only of my buggy. But anyone else that has video from this event, feel free to add it to this thread.
Was an awesome event. The short video clips don't do it justis.

I lost the original sound on this video so I threw in one of my favorites instead.
It's by, "High Contrast" off their album, "Tough Guys Don't Dance". It's Russian. It's awesome.

I blew my rear UJ climbing out from this hazard. But still managed to clear it with no penalties.

Hi all, great vids
Now i have a question about these winch challenges that are held and no spectators allowed :x
How do you expect to grow interest in your sport if you dont allow spectators to view these events?
I understand the inherant dangers involved with spectators getting to close and getting in the way, why not place the barrier tape further away. There are plenty of people who are quite happy to stand well out of the way and not cause headaches for the event organisers or the drivers but would love the oppertunity to see these events in person 8)
I was fortunate enough to be allowed access to the saint arnaud and blenheim round last year which, i am very greatful for, i got some great photos and not once did i get in the way of any drivers or cause any problems, the organisers were all good with me being there as i had contacted the club that was hosting the event to get there permission.
So what is the secret society thing about these events for, not being smart or agro just venting

A main reason why lots of the comps don't allow spectators is due to the land owners. When the Rotorua winch comp was held in the Mamaku forest no spectators were allow I think due to safety ect. But this years event was held at a new property which was open to the public for two days. The turn out of people was awesome which would have opened more doors for the sport. I personally think its great to have spectators, but from a property owners point of view. If you opened your property to the public you could have all sorts of people coming in and out, leaving rubbish, damage to property and even the could be theft. If this happened you could see why they would not want us back.
One way you could view the event is maybe volunteer to marshal for half a day events are always looking for marshals.

I guess contact the club that is holding the event. No harm in offering to help out, i'm sure it would be appreciated.
