catch can mk3

Post by tweake »

new catch can for the toy.
most 4x4's need the bigger "15mm" connectors/tubes.

Image
fit a breather filter onto catch can hose connector. not in the photo's is the plastic cover that goes around the filter. wrap a bit of plastic sheet around the side of the filter and fasten it down with a cable tie around the top. that forces the gas coming out of the filter to go down into the bottom of the can

Image
example of plastic wrapped around internal filter.

screw filter to through top hole of catch can

Image
note the gap. you need to have a good gap which is why the filter was conencted to the end of the hose fitting.

Image
fit pipe fittings to other end of connector thread. 2nd breather filter fits into one of the side holes. any holes not used need to be plugged.

assembled

i just have to seal the connectors, put the sight glass etc on the can then fit it to the ute.

goes on the engine breather line. catches the oil that gets thrown out of the breather. stops it getting into engine intake or pouring it all over the road !

this is one is vent to air rather than plumb back to inlet.

the filter in can works roughly like a compressed air filter.

i tried it vent to the air on the nissan but i had a few problems with it.
with that engine you get a lot of very fine oil mist and those filters are not great so you still got some very fine oil mist coming through.
so got oil smell coming into the cab which is a real pain for a daily driver.
the other is the can got surprisingly hot.
