I have begun my search for a new hunting wagon to get me better acess to hunting grounds on the west coast of the south island. I brought my crappy datsun ute down here and after getting stuck on wet grass a few times i decided that it was time to upgrade!
I am based around greymouth/reefton but like to travel over the passes to christchurch, down the coast to haast and even over to kaikoura. I warmed to the idea of an SJ413 at the start because i like the shape, lots of character and they seem to have a cult following. But correct me if i am wrong, being a 1300cc, after putting some decent tyres on it, the trip over the pass would be painfully slow?
So the second choice was something along the lines of an escudo/vitara. They are also very popular, and i see many of them out and about, there seems to be a decent parts market for them and lots of knowledge.
This would be an advantage over the daihatsu rocky/rugger?
I am looking at spending 4-5k and would prefer to buy something standard.
All it really needs to do is give me better hunting acess and be tolerable on the road, and for some reason i would prefer something small rather than a surf/terrano type wagon.
Anyone got something for sale or some advise?
thanks
Suzuki excudo or similar wanted.

Welcome mate.
Cant help with any of your questions but i know there are quite a few suzuki fans on here who know them inside out and own trucks ranging from pretty stock machines to trials truck to full on comp winch trucks with hilux diff ect ect
put your location up so people can see where you are when it comes to looking for help or getting parts. go to 'private messages' then click on 'profile' and you can put it in there.
this one came up for sale recently, seems pretty stock to me and under your budget but also the other end out the country...

Sj413's aren't too bad in terms of power when they are running properly. However, being as old as most of them are they tend to need a good tune and service.

Lada Nivas are good too.
They were built for Siberia, so snow is no problem.
Standard ones have very few issues, and if looked after they can be very reliable.
