Gidday,
I tried to start the truck tonight, and it would not start.
From what I dragged up on previous posts, it sounds like the glow plugs.
The engine turned over fine, but it showed no signs of firing. I'm not sure if it was blowing white smoke or not (it was dark). The engine has been running a bit rough lately when cold and would take 30 seconds to settle after I started it, with a bit of a burst of the throttle it helped clear it up.
Are the signs pointing towards the glow plugs?
If they are would BNT be as good a place as any to source them?
Cheers in advance
Nick

Re: Hilux 2L starting issues
repco, supercheap auto or your local auto electrician, get a few prices as some people can be really expensive

Re: Hilux 2L starting issues
So I replaced the glow plugs and it has been going well for about a week.
However I just tried to start it and it, and no luck.
The battery turns it over fine. It seems to be the colder weather having an effect.
Perhaps needs a new fuel filter - I have no idea when it was done last.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Yep, it appears that the fuel line just needed to be bled. Must have been an air lock in there...
Has been running fine for the last few days

Sooooooooo,
Tried to start the ute this morning and same thing, it didn't start.
It's getting fuel fine, so thats not the issue.
I'm certain now that its the glow plugs. I flick them on and off briefly to click the relay on and off repeatedly, then let them glow properly and she starts first pop. Does the glow plug relay wear out?
Where are they on a 85 lux?
