Terrano D21 Auto Trans issue.

Post by Fusion235 »

Hi, gotta 95 D21 terrano (diesel) automatic, when car is cold, it seems to take its sweet time shifting into 4th, so you are doing near 3K rpm at 100kph for a while until it decides to shift gear, usually this happens after 5-10 minutes, after that its fine and works as per normal.

Trans has fresh fluid recently but hasnt changed anything.

Is this a faulty solenoid of some kind & is it expensive to have fixed? Works mint in all other respects, just an annoying problem.

Its a Cold temp thing, there is a oil temp sensor in the box, wont let it change up till the oil reaches temp, takes longer in winter.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Hmm that could make sense , Im in Wellington and it has been getting quite fresh lately..Its fine once warmed up - as I say it takes 5-10 mins of motorway driving to change, just frustrating, its like move move god dammnit change gear already. Not that diesel terranos are rockets in any sense but you know..

Wash your mouth out............standard, autos are slugs

As posted above, can take longer in winter, the quick fix is for faulty sender unit rather than stripping half the trans to fit a new sender.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
