Would have been keen to go with you for a blat up there man!
Usually go there every new years and despite spending 12 hours wandering around the bush one day I have never made it to the sink holes.
Amazing area. The only time I ever wish I had air-con is that dusty as access road in the scorching summer.

Passed this poor bastard on the access road 3 years back. Mate put the pic on a T-Shirt.

Was just after the top of the climb out of the campsite, where the drop is quite severe...=/

Would love to,
it is an amazing place and very remote But is quite dangerous at times [ 4 large rivers ]....You can stay at the light house as there is a really good doc house fully equipped and its still free i think..The beach is also amazing with Huge sand hills that you can play on..The Big River is the most dangerous and some times cannot be crossed,we some times take a 4 wheeler on a trailer for the last few k's ...this is a coast that very few people get to visit, they really are missing out on what i think would be the most beautiful in the South Island..

Just put a message on here and i will see if i can organise a few people..would have to be on my days off i drive milk tankers ..i have been meaning to go there for a while now as haven't been for a very long time

Magic!!! I'll give you a PM.

So very true, its a beautiful place at anytime of the year. Like you say, not many people head out that way and so miss out. I when to the most northern point on the south island as well. What a cool view from the platform that is there.

Good as ..There is a much better place to view the most northern part of the Island than there, instead of turning off you go straight through and turn of at the top of the hill and drive up to Blinking Willy [ a very small light house ] also the old radar station & large gun used to be there in WW 2..you get this amazing view of the whole spit plus a amazing view of the Coast plus a cool little track ....The gate there is not locked,DOC put it up but the locals kicked up such a fuss they unlocked it
