ARB Old Man Emu leaf Springs - Opinions???

Post by Als »

Hey All,

Just looking at getting a little more lift on my sami and looking at the OME 2" raised leaf springs. Is there anyone on here that runs them or has had them in the past??? Just wondering on ride quaity and flex etc. Are the worth the money??? Also are the old man emu shocks any good or best to go the rancho or similar way?

Any help would be appreciated. Already have a 2" body lift in and trying to get some more room for 32" simexs they are on and kinda clear but another couple of inches would be ideal.

Cheers

the OME springs are mated to the OME shocks to give the best possible ride from them.

DB has some on weapon and loved them, Mr O had them on his sammi as well.... puddlejumper as well has some on his vitara powered flat deck.....

maybe PM them for their honest opinion 8) ?

dunno about zook ones but the 50mm lifted OME front springs I put in my 70 series cruiser sit up nice and high and flex really well for a standard leaf spring but the 50mm lifted OME front springs I put in my 40 series cruiser sit really low and dont flex up anything like my 70 series ones, they ended up 50mm lower than the origional lovell springs that were in there. So I guess with all things not being equal it would be interesting to see how the guys with the zooks have got on with their OME lifted springs in their trucks? I'm pretty sure both sets of springs were the Dakar series?

Yeah check out DB's videos of his zook. You'll get an idea how they go. EFS is another option but I havn't been able to try mine yet so can't say anything as to how they go

That is because my truck has a heavy ass and I did not adjust the bump stops to suit, that is the reasons why one of the springs broke. Also I think the springs where underrated for my truck.

As for a zuk it will be fine with OME springs as it is light as.

I've got OME springs front and rear in my ute. Rear shocks are Hilux but the front shock are still standard issue Zuk ones.. Must do something about that one day

I made bump stop extentions for the rear some the shocks dont bottom out.

Heres a link to my build - Which i should actually update again....

http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 18&t=22119

As for ride quality. SJ Zuks are known to have a "Bumpy" ride and although its rides better than the old flogged out original springs you could never call it a smooth ride.

I've removed some of the leafs out of the rear spring packs - I think from memory i've got three in there now. This made a noticable difference and also dropped the rear down a bit as it sat a little to high. Once i get a winch in there i may put one back in.

OME leafs are well known locally and internationally as a great product for Suzukis
thier lifted leafs are longer than stock to account for the arched lift, meaning no sacrifice in flex for height.

most people remove the rear overload leaf to give a softer ride in the rear. As we don't carry 150+kgs of gear.
HD fronts are recommended it you have a bullbar / winch / larger engine etc

ARB suspension packages are designed to improve road handling and comfort in a stock or close to stock configuration. They are not designed to increase offroad suspension travel ie "flex" .
Hence the reason that most zook owners opt for a more custom shock setup and play with the leaf packs to achieve the flex they want.

the packs are known to settle a little over time and they are vechile side specific.

a good friend has had OME leafs/ shocks in his 410 for the last 10yrs. doesnt get used much any more, but still goes great for a stock setup . the springs settle over time , but a quick flex up and they return to normal.

I will be putting OME in my SJ and my LJ when the current springs die.(ie soon)

wheeling link posted above wasn't a fare comparison of springs . as my Monroe shocks were limiting my flex.

DB has OME in Weapon , he was Happy with thier performance in general and compition environment as far as I know , he may wish to add more.

Gee badnuz go and have another coffee and chill a little . After stating that you represent OME and then practically calling a potential customer a paedophile is not really a good look .

The net is full of posts that rubbish this and that and ARB and OME are no different . You are posting on an internet forum with one hand and then slagging forums with the other . Everyone takes what they read with a grain of salt I am sure . A polite response expressing different opinions is surely a better policy alas as hard as it may be sometimes . Like it or not you publicly represent the company in everything you do .

Put OME springs in my brothers 4age powered flatdeck. Not complaining about them at all! probably the best thing (aside from the motor) thats been done to that truck. Handle, flex and ride beautifully 8)

Cant say Id really waste my time playing around with leaf packs again when its so easy and cheap to buy ones made for the job ready to bolt in and go.

You cant buy them from rex, but for everything landrover related go to landroverspares.co.nz for some of their quality products

yeah i got ome's in my fj31

ride good on the road and articulate sweey on the track as well

to be fair they are proberly better now after 6 or so years then when i first got them

they are sitting at about the same height but seam to move even better then when f1st installed

the ome shocks in the back are well gone and im now on the 4th set the front are still running the 1st set of ome shocks

the spring pack still remains unchanged and in origanal configuration

the design of the rear allows the lower spring mount to crush the shock when cross axling hard which in turn damages the shock piston seal

you must install anti'inversion plates welded to the shackles to stop the spring flipping over itself as this will kill all spring doesnt matter what the brand

just my experiances
