1KZTE Buying tips

As above, Am buying a 1kzte surf. Any tips would be great, Things to look for and common problems?

cooling system is a must , there is an old thread on here somewhere that has all this in detail but like usual ya gotta search for it. have a good look and it will turn up

look for Toyota factory service stickers on drivers side door jam.
look for one that has done the majority of its kms on the open road , not around town .

Got one lined up for today so will check it out, My biggest fare is the cooling system.

get a compression test done, they are really good at doing heads round the 200000km mark in the kzn130 the later model kzn185 are a bit better.

check for rust in front doors and just in front of rear flares

Yeh its a kzn130.

Done just over 270 ks. New head has been fitted along with water pump etc aprantaly!

in that case the head problem should be solved.

as long as it wasnt a cheap nock off head instead of a toyota one

skux , the cooling system in any vehicle is important but what is more important is monitoring the internal combustion heat via an exhaust gas temperature gauge, do an EGT or PYRO GAUGE search, it has been well documented. Once monitored you need to change your driving style to keep your EGT below 650deg C. I believe that this is what will give you longevity out of any engine.

Yeh cheer's mate ive read abit now thanks to couple links from "chrome".

1st thing on the list will be getting a dump pipe made, Then ill do exhaust from there on. Also i have a intercooler already & A water temp gauge!

Giday, is that the short wheel base prado sx in Fairlie? I got a mechanic to look over it and do a compression tests here if u want them. They look good. Not keen on the truck anymore

im selling one with head done, water temp guage done , thermostat done, viscous fan fluid done, auto trans cooler done, intercooler done, and 3 inch dump pipe and exhaust doen, it may be what youre after and save u alot of money doing it all yourself

the other thing to check is how well the drive train has been greased - no grease, doesn't matter what the oil like, it hasn't been serviced properly
