Supercheap Winches

Post by Overkill »

Supercheap are having a sale on for Fathers Day and have their 9500lbs winch for $449, cheap azzzzzzz  Now because I am a father, I can see my kids getting me this for father's day

Has anyone tried these units or knows of someone that has, it would be great if I could get some feedback before the kids spend Dad's hard earned.......

Feedback and a mount from hosehustler and I'm set 8)

Hey mate,

Yep I've got one and my mate has had one for about a year.

The pros:

They cheap
They are well sealed (although not the solenoids)
They are well built inside
And they are cheap

The Cons

The solenoids are cheapies that wont like water, I used the standard box that it came with but siliconed it shut and ran a breather to it.

They will corrode and look real shit real fast, so I oiled the exterior of mine up (Do the chassis every 6 months so will do this at the same time)

Its slow but will get there, after all you wont be using it in a race eh!

When I hydro-locked the terrano I was up the the doors (well over the bonnet anyway!) in that nasty sticky bog at the mungatooks and it pulled me out of that pretty well.

Big improvement to them is to replace the cables with heavier duty items and keep the cables as short as possible.

I have one on front of my daily driver seems to work really well although I have mounted mine vertically because of my how tjm winch bars mount them which means the freespool doesn't engage/disengage but i just wind it out on the remote. The only other thing is its noisey on winching out under load... still probably something to do with it mounted wrong. And yeh control box looks very shitty haha a tigers11 upgrade control box might be a better plan...

Cheers, DAN

Hey Dan,

If you take the bolts out of the tie bars (the two that hold between the motor and gearbox) you can slide the gear box off the end of the drum. You will find 12? I think M4 cap screws, take them all out then you can rotate the free spool lever to where you wish then replace the M4 cap screw and put it all back together.

They are noisy winching out because the of the design of the 1 way clutch on the drive shaft, means the motor has to overcome the force of the clutch.

Cheers,

Just put one of these winches on my truck, as Warn wanted $885 for a new motor  . I upgraded earth bolt and washer for brushes, replaced all electrical cables, sealed control box, added breather and drain fittings to motor. Well sealed looking unit.
If you break it... build it stronger.

I'm gonna be opening mine up tomorrow  well done to my little ones

Are you able to post a couple of pics of your mods? If it extends the life of the winch then that's what i'll be doing
