wanting to know which is better for mig welding co2 or argon shield, some tips and hints would be great

That's a 6 million dollar question.
I am a novice but talking to a few welders and tradesman.....

My bro welds with CO2. (as thats all his boss will buy)
Mate welds with Argo shield.

I have used both.
CO2 was a little more splattery than Argo and was hotter.

Argo-shield is smoother in comparison and the welds looked better.

But hey I am a novice and its my observations.

I agree Argo shield is darer, but less splatter and it is hotter and nicer welds. :D

depends what you are welding - mild steel co2 is alright and gives hotter weld, co2 argon mix with mild steel is a good compromise to reduce splatter, anything else argon, especially stainless steel

pure argon on steel is awesome but expensive :D
anyway co2 is fine for most welding

I would go with co2 any day as the gas is a lot cheaper,the appearance in weld is not as good as argoshield but at the end of day its still a weld and its the guy on the end of the hand piece that can make it look good. Type of wire to type of gas is important,get the right mix. :shock: :shock:

for hard wire (coppercoat) argon is the shit u want, yea it costs more
for flux cored wire co2 is the business
