Re: End of an Era
Who cares what it looks like - It would all be forgiven if it retained beam axles but given LR's stance in the last 10 years thats not likely....
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods

Re: End of an Era
Bet it's going "Monocock" chassis, more for the onroad that off. Thought they would of kept it at least a little rugged, the ugly one in the bunch but what people use for real offroading......ah well, at least it's got pedigree for mall crawlingNJV6 wrote:Who cares what it looks like - It would all be forgiven if it retained beam axles but given LR's stance in the last 10 years thats not likely....

Re: End of an Era

Re: End of an Era
i have been a landrover fan all my life and back in england owned around 12 of them since i was 19/20 from lightweight to disco and most in between with the exception of a freelander..
i love the look of the new one pictured BUT only as a seperate vehicle in its own right!
THAT! will NEVER! replace the 90 (defender) you can never replace an icon, very very sad to see.

Re: End of an Era
So in 2015 Do we get the "Classic Defender" tag, like the Classic Range Rovers??
Considering L.R have the Rangy, Disco, Freelander and Evoque in the Mall Crawler Soccer Mum SUV market, chances are the Defender will retain its work horse features to continue to compete with Toyota and Nissan in tough work horse market.
Saying that, the New Cruisers and Patrols have gone soft..................

Quite possibly, but that was the 80s

So many rumours floating around, the T4/5 platform? like a lot of manufacturers are doing these days, same platform to keep costs down and throw a different body on it... Its all about the american market, thats where the money is

Re: End of an Era
Tbh, it is sad to see the old one go, but the new one doesn't look all that bad. At least it doesn't look to be as soft as some of the modern 4x4s.
Oh, and it looks nothing like a new MINI, let alone a Cooper

Re: End of an Era
there is always talk on the G wagen forums about when production will end but i think it isn't as much of an issue there until they have lost all military supply contracts

i understand the only reason why they are changing the shape is for safety, you are not supposed to kill stuff when you run into it any more.............

Re: End of an Era
It will make my series 2 worth more money now because it was the very first one of the latest defender shape that has now lasted 53 years.
Into dispatch March 3 1958 and the only known original existing series 2 in the world from Feb-Mar 1958

Cheers Richard
