Leaf spring setup
Leaf spring setup
In the process of refitting the springs to Nibbys truck and need some info about locating the spring mounts. We are using 60 series springs on his 40 series. Because of this we have removed all the old spring mounts etc and we are relocating new mounts onto the chassis. We have the measurements (thanks Roc
) of the distance between mount centres on a standard sixty series (1070 front and 1180 rear) but when i prefitted the front spring and shackle at this measurement the shackle was pretty much following the spring curve and leaning forward towards the middle of the spring
. We have no weight on them at this stage, and i presume that once the engine and body weight are added it will flatten the spring and swing the shackle back to give us our (approx) 45 degree shackle angle. Am i on the right track or am i hopelessly out of my depth here
geometry was never my strong point.
Looking forward to any constructive advice.

nobody?
further to what h2o has said.. has anyone got a 60 with a 3b they could quickly just take the measurement of the chassis mounts for the spring one end and shackle the other, and post that measurement from eye to eye? (straight line) just to check my measurements....
or a 60 with modded engine but converted from a 3b with std spring mounts still?
aw go on................ purty please?................

to get the max travel out of leaf spring shackles run a tape measure down the top spring you want to know the length of the spring with its flat (full compresion) what you do is take the shackle length off this and thats the front spring "eye" to the chassi mount "eye" of the shackle this will let the shackle fold flat giving you the most suspension movement
Hope this is what your after
Cheers Reece
