Re: grinding sound
oh that will be the hydromatic flux power transfur cylinder which is designed to inform the end user that all is well in the carbon propelled futuristic machine. Now if one tryes to anti propel then the ones carbon propelled futuristic machine does ones noise gradually fade if so then all is not well, and if the noise continues if remain the same then its doing just as designed to do and one then must assume that all is well and the original manufactures of one carbon propelled futuristic machine is going to looking into another cash windfall which is rather pleasent if one is a manufacturer of one carbon propelled futuristic machine.
come on fella one must give generous details before twos and threes came be of any assistance

Re: grinding sound
Had this in my patrol a couple weeks ago. It went bang crunch then under engine braking it vibrated and whined quite badly, just cruising down the open road I'll add. Something broke off in the diff as the oil was full of metal so swapped my spare diff in. Haven't investigated further but stick your finger in the oil level hole and see if the oils clean. I only drove mine to a hoist 5min down the road and it was like liquid metal. In a factory locker too dammit
And yeah what the others said about more info needed.

Actually mudlva I think you need to re-read the original question.
What he asked for was how he could tell if it was gearbox or diff.
You response was pure sarcasm.
Re: grinding sound
I will get to check mine eventually but I changed out the diff as I was worried the driving may have worn the hardening off the gears or at least rooted the bearings. I also needed to drive it monday
Good luck sorting it out.
