Alot of the USA trucks have a metal plate around 12mm thick with a 20mm hole and a bow shackle as the tow point for the vehicle, I thinks the yanks call them a "D-ring mount"
I doubt that it would be a cheaper option, but I like the looks of it, and the two front ones could be spaced at the right distance apart to use the same holes for an A-frame.
I would think as long as the bow shackle is rated and the plate is bolted to the chassis with 8.8 bolts everyting should be OK.
Would this be accepted on club runs ?

D-Ring mounts can be ok, but nothing as user friendly as a good mounted easy to get at HOOK with keep to stop rope from coming off , eg; try using a D shackel when it's under water or buried in mud or shingle . A well marked (fluro arrow or tape) hook is easy and quick to find and idiot proof . Most well set up Vehicles will have both set up's .I like to use the KISS principal ------ keep it simple,-- stupid .

i couldnt use hooks as factory nuts were stripped so got a mate (engineer) to make this for me its 16mm plate with six high tensile bolts bolted through with 10mm backing plate on back of chassie rail . he also wedged the eyes to build the weld to the plate for max strength .
its also higher than tow hooks and easy to get at.
will post pic when sort it out (and not so hungover)..
Steve got all excited when he seen the welding on it , only wish i could weld that ...[/img]
I have ths set up on the rear bar along with a centre mounted towhook. The d shackles go through a piece of steel about 15 mm thick and they are in turn welded to the channel steel bar. They are inline with the chassis and are primarily used for winching as it evenly distributes the load.
I had same problem but just retapped the holes.

rain, hail, sleet or snow, we go!
Al, please tell me you're not using re-tapped stripped factory anchors for mounting hooks to
No Steve, I retapped the holes they came out of and put new ones in. Thing is I couldn't do it metric as my tap and die set only had imperial at that size. Don't worry Stevve, not the dodgy brothers you know. They won't come out.
