Chomping would be an understatement. Still have all the electrics to go but drive train is basically complete 8)
All good here mate. Looking forward to summer.

Also a big thanks to you Simon for getting my reversing lights going, It was a bit of trail and testing but you problem solved it really quickly, wonder how long it would take for someone else to work out.

sibainmud wrote: T2 came with the exact same towbar that T1 has, so I cut the towball tongue off one and have mounted it forward 75mm so now the tube that the tongue was attached to is now the fuel tank protection. I have planed out the rear bar and recovery hooks but will need to bobtail chassis rails by 60mm or so to make it look right and trimming the departure angle slightly of course. The spare towbar will be handy if needed and can be interchanged with the chopped one with 10 bolts. To make all this work I had to cut both the factory tie-down eyes off the chassis and grind all the welds off to make it look original.

During the week I gave the winch a service. Last time i did it over a year ago, I sealed the motor with RTV. Turned out it worked a treat as the gearbox had a tablespoon of water in it and the motor was spotless and dry as a bone. Cleaned all the gears and reassembled with some TC grease (semi-fluid, water resistant, tacky goo). Found the negative lead fried, so made a new one out of 70mm cable. That would explain why it has been slow and under powered.
Solved the problem of the bitter end of the rope ripping the bolt out of the drum ( this has plagued me for years, 3xM6, 1xM8 1xM10 all pulled out of the threads :o ), so I drilled and tapped the inner drum for a 7/16 UNF 9.8 high tensile bolt 8)

On a lighter note;
When I said that T1 didn't have a straight panel, I was wrong. Found one today,

so, here's what is left of T1,

That's all for now. Tomorrow another day.

Good day today. All cleaned up and moved out. All spares transported home. T2 is at home too.
Still have heaps to do before i hit the tracks; rear brakes, rear bar, electrics like radios, lights, winch control, diff-lock control and I have to build the on-board air system too.
Still have a few things underneath to do as well like driveshaft hoop before cert time
Pics of today,

The thread will continue as some of these things get ticked off the list.
Now it is home I can plug away at the outstanding tasks :D

A wee spin on the way home. Still running standard boost and fuel at this stage as I have to still hook up the instruments (boost, EGT, volts, etc). Handles the same with no sway bars. Still have to fit the intercooler and the bonnet with the scoop. I was going to wait until it has been through cert before i pull all the tricks out of the bag
I'll keep ya's all posted on the mods to get the ponies out of it.

Sweet.

Will you get yours Certed with no sway bars and what about the modded center link? Can that even be certed?

I haven't got a cert at the moment, although I probably should as it's got a 50mm bodylift in it. But it has been through a warrent at the VTNZ testing station with Bodylift, modded center link and no front sway bar and didn't get picked up.

I'm going to try :P
The items I want on the cert plate are suspension lift, body lift, modified draglink, several different tire/rim combinations and the bars.
My theory with the draglink is, existing hardware is only slightly modified and is stronger and more accurate than any OEM or aftermarket draglinks, but I may have to machine out the bushes to 9/16 and drill the pitman and idler arms to suit as the 1/2 bolts only locate in the skinny end of the taper. Can i call on you for the specs of the material used on the draglink?
Going for ground breaking stuff here 8)

You do realise if it passes with the moded drag link there will be a flood of us going for it  Well I will anyways.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Why do you need a drive shaft hoop? Isn't it running the standard motor?

Also along saying multiple rims and tyre combos. Everyone always used to say that you could only ever cert for one size of tyre however a mate of mine got his truck certed the other week and they put two sizes on for him. How long have they been doing that for? Good to know at any rate.

Does anyone know if the standard shocks on a d21 terrano will be alright for a 3" suspension lift... If not what's a good brand. I was thinking of importing some rancho5000 shocks from 4x4parts.com.

Start a new thread would be the go here mate, more likely to get the answers you want that way!!

But incase you don't, there's no way in hell that standard shocks will fit correctly with a 3" lift.

But more to the point, how are you going to lift a Terrano 3 inches?? They are IFS after all, so getting 50mm out of them is a huge ask as it is

I like the RS5000 shocks, I run them in the Suzuki fleet   . You can get the for $95 each from AFWE!!!

Start a new thread, be keen to hear what your planning to do!!!!

It needs a hoop because there was one from the factory like all terranos and it is normally required on a sus and body lift. i'm just trying to cover all bases. You can have as many mods on a plate as you want, it's just a case of the paperwork and getting it checked off as satisfactory. More things you can put on the cert the better and it saves paying again to have something else added

P.s Kiwinoz, I'll reply tomorrow night as i just got in from the shed and it's midnight.

Well first time i log into here in month and click on builds as i was missing 4wd and starting to save for a comp truck. Click on this didn't even see who it was by. Simon, i am gutted i wasn't there to see you say goodbye to the old girl. I remember not that long ago the twisted failure and the mission in the lux with serious oil burning problems to get a new one. Haha good times! Will look forward to coming home and seeing T2 or maybe T3 by then haha.

Not much posted lately. i have been driving T2 to work for the last couple of weeks and most of it is good so far.
Items done in the last week;

New clutch master and slave cylinders as it was starting to get dodgey
Rear brakes,
Rear bar mounted and 1 recovery hook (will do the second one soon as I get another long series 1/2 drill bit as I broke my last one :( ),
Front steering stops adjusted for Simex's
Wheel alignment,
Oil catch can on crankcase breather,
Bash plate fitted,
Simex's now fitted

Last Saturday I got the carcase of T1 picked up by the scrappy. I got $56 for it
The complete truck used to weigh 2290kg fully laden. By the time I had finished stripping it, it weighed 560kg 8)
While I was at the scrap yard I drove onto the scales with T2 and it weighs 2150kgs with all the recovery gear and batteries on board.

Major items left to do;
Snorkel,
Electrics (radios, dual battery system, instrumentation and other luxuries)
Pneumatics (diff lock control, on-board air)
Cert,
More horse power (intercooler, wind up the fuel and boost)

I'll get some pics over the weekend.

I have had a bit of a break in the tropics. The holiday cut into the budget too :(
In the last week I have been in the garage beetling away at a few items.

This weeks achievements are;
Fitted winch solenoid pack and hard wired a dash switch with it's own circuit breaker off the run position on the ignition,
UHF and scanner fitted
Jury rigged a compressor for rear diff lock as not enough funds or time to do full engine driven on board air system......yet
Tonight's mission is to get the winch battery installed (N120) but I'll have to hook it up temporarily in parallel with the standard one :(

Tomorrow morning is the first time 4wd will be used in anger at Woodhill as I'm needed on patrol. It will be a good test of a few things.
Bearing in mind I still haven't tweaked the boost or fuel, so I will be taking it easy (insert Tui ad)
Will take some pics and vid of it in action and post.

Cheers,

Had an awesome day today at Woodhill. It was real quiet so explored some newer tracks.
Got in from the garage at 330am this morning and the last minute preps were worth it 8)
Everything I have done worked flawlessly, suspension is perfect, all travels and clearances are spot on. I disconnected the waste-gate for the day and it hummed great. Still a little down on power, but don't have to redo a thing
Bad news, because i was so tired, forgot my camera. I hope some of Drurban's pics turn up soon.
Had a couple of oops moments where the track and changed, but I'm sure there will be some great pics and maybe a bit of film too 8)

T1 = 2290kg and T2 = 2150kg. Is the 140kg difference all the mud on T1  . It always surprises me how much the chassis rails hold when I wash them out

Been a little while since I've posted. Have been so busy at work, I haven't done much on the Terranosaurus, until this weekend in preparation for the long weekends upcoming trip 8)
So, I went and bought a new long series 1/2 drill bit and finally finished fitting both rear recovery hooks in a fashion I'm happy with.
Image

Image

Mounted the spare wheel carrier from T1 in. Had to make up all the mounting points as T2 didn't have the same ones
Image

Image

Fitted and wired up the extra instruments so I can now tweak the fuel and monitor the twin battery set up.
EGT, boost and volt meter with a selector switch for front or rear batteries.
Image

Tomorrow it's time to fit intercooler and VSR, boost controller, small pulley on alternator and make a start on the snorkel.
More pictures of that to come
