kbjj has his mounted on a hinge there and seems to work a treat although i think as of late he may have caught it comin down off something? he may spot this and elaborate..

another option, possibly mount it up above fairlead and to the drivers side? (between nissan badge and left upright) i know ya have a cooler there but there'll be plenty of flow around it at highway speeds and the radiator fan will still work at lower speeds..?

Nice job on the bar Pete looks great :P

A removeable plate when off roading would work well.

I've seen some mounted on fairleads on removeable brackets like this

Or another option if you don't want plate stolen off your vehicle is to make a similar plate that attaches to the end of your winch rope, winch in and plate pulls up hard against fairlead rollers.

Thanks Tim, I like the idea of a removable plate, so much so that this is what I will do. :D

I just have mine on cable ties. Then if doing a tougher track they get snipped and it goes back on after.

Another option is to just throw it away. Its illegal to have a numberplate mounted on anything other than perpindicular to the ground (i.e in the windscreen), however its not illegal to not have one at all

That's what I did, but it fell off last night when I was out fishing, just spent two hours back tracking to find it.

It will be obscured by the fog lights there and will mostly block the tranny cooler, but cheers for the idea.

Just had a look in a couple of hardware shops but no one seems to have any clips as heavy duty as the ones in Tims pictures.
Does anyone know another option of sourcing some?
I had a look at the fairlead roller setup and there is just enough room to tuck the hook in there with the plate covering it all.

My only other option is to hinge the plate under the top hoop of the bars, this way the air when travelling will make it go horizontal and not restrict airflow to the radiators. It will also push out of the way with water crossings etc too.

You sure about that turoa??? I spent about 5 months driving around without a front plate
cos I had been doing bar mods....finally got pulled over one day and damn near got fined, only reason I didn't was because I had the plate in the back and cable tied it to make the cop happy.

You don't need a front plate for a WoF but you need it for driving on the road

You have to have a front plate displayed at all times, rear plate doesnt have to be displayed.

Been pulled over a couple of times when the front number plates to dirty to see and been requested to clean front plate, lights, indercator and rear lights but not the rear plates as "the rear plates no nesscary mate" as cop said

Old man never had rear plates on his trucks for years nor the back of his navaraas his rear bar has no place to mount it.

Na gotta have both (except bikes, farm equip and trailers), and can't bend them around the corner. They can be angled, boy racer styles, but must face front/rear

Back to the mounting issue, I have my plate covering both the hawse fairlead and a hole the hook goes through (clips to inside the winch housing when not in use). I rivetted 4 hard-drive rare-earth magnets to the corner of the plate (the magnets are glued to steel backings with 2 holes in, all ready to use), and just "stick" it where I want it. Hit a few trees, it's on bloody solid - you really have to give it a yank to get it off, and then I just stick it to the bonnet until I need to put it back.

No

Permanently mount two 6mm bolts to the rail you have above the fairlead at the spacings apart of the holes in the plate, then attach it with wingnuts.....

If it were me pete i'd make a steel plate (number plate attached) which has a good D shacle attached to the back on a mount, take off your winch hook after your offroading trip, attach number plate holder and winch in till tight and located, cheap simple and won't fall off

I got a ticket from a CCC parking warden for having my number plate in the windscreen of my vehicle and not on my bumper a few years back - the windscreen was pretty dirty though

Just my 2cents :)
