Odlins Road 11th Sept

Post by Sketchy_Racer »

I am planning on going for a trip to the green hut and back tomorrow if anyone is keen to join me.

It will be cruisy drive with possible parts track clearing depending on how many trees are still down from the snow.

Give me a text or call on 021 0746193 for the details

Usual 4x4 club etiquette applies (no pissed drivers)

be wary of felled trees etc due to the recent snow etc we did thompsons the other day (near otaki) and it was very slow going with all the over growth hanging lower, and Odlins isnt exactly a well cleared track... i suggest a chain saw and some toolage maybe even a winch could be needed...

wish i had a 4x4 to tag along :( have a good trip!

Sweet cheers for the heads up Badnuz, have got a winch and hopefully a chainsaw.

I'll be at the top of the Akatarawa road at 10am heading in around 10.15am so if you're keen catch us there.

Cheers,

Was a quiet one in the end, my mate that was supposed to be coming up bailed, but seeing as I had posted here I thought I better turn up in case anyone else did but no one did so I decided I would go for a cruise up to the tank traps on my own seeing as it's an easy drive to get there. Caught up with Dace and his mates on the quads and stopped for a quick chat then went on my way.

Heaps of trees down across the track but someone has been through and made it all passable, Dace mentioned that there was another group that were heading through to the Green Hut so hopefully it should be passable now. Still one managed to get caught up and take ownership of my flare and rip it a new one, somewhere up there now is half a flare. So the rest were removed until i get some flexi flare to replace them.

Although I wont get a chance to get out in the truck for a while now, got a mates stag do on the 17th, racing little motorbikes on the 18th then racing big motorbikes the weekend after at Manfeild, just to keep a man busy.

Hey Sketchy, was great to meet ya, glad ya got out ok.

The other group did manage to get to green hut, must have been fun, some of the washouts would have been very tight, but no prob for the Zuk!!!

we got right thru to snowy junction, had to rebuild parts of the track to do it, can now see why the fullsize 4x4's don't go thru any more

all up a great day.

private logging access, DOC land permission req and i think 5 farms make up the entire trip..... so a bit of work to get all the correct permissions....

tack is easy ish. min 2/3 trucks, winch will be needed coople sections maybe... VERY overgrown and lots of snow felled trees currently....

We went in on 4th Sep. VERY slow due to endless snowfell trees everywhere. Sawed, lopped and "drove" until a few corners after the largish slip that was down. Took while to dig, saw, winch and claw bit of a track across the bottom of the slip and by a few corners further it was almost 6pm and getting dark so thought worthwhile turning back and letting someone else finish off! The last sign we saw of other vehicles ended where the large mossy windfall was down over the track. We sawed a tunnel through it and carried on but was virgin fall after that.
