Terrano Speedo

Post by darinz »

Has anyone had the speedo from a Terrano (cable type) calibrated for bigger tyres? I trying to sort out mine with Safari axles 4.88 gears and 33's. Not worried about the bigger tyres as don't need to be certifed for them.
By my calculations it will be pretty close as factory diffs are 4.3 and tyres 30". So 10% gigger with tyres and about 10% lower gears but I will need some adjustment.
Anyone got some ideas beyond changing speedo which will require a complete dash change so might happen yet as dash is only ruoghly mounted around the rollcage.

There are different speedo drives for the different ratio diffs.
I have 2 0f the three. 4.3, 4.6 and 4.8. I will be running the 4.6 drive with 4.8 diffs and 33's.
Problem is big gap between 4.3 and 4.6 though.
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Sweet. Have you tested it with 4.88 gears and 33's? It is one thing my certifier will require.

My cruiser with 37's is doing 100k on the gps when the speedo is showing 90k

auto terranos have the 4.1 most manuals have 4.6 and in late 93/94 they have a mix of 4.6 and 4.8, these are only diesels im talking about.

My first terraan had 4.6 and 32 speedeo was 7km out with my secound terrano 4.8 diff and 32.5s it was spot on but my mates terrano is the same as my last one runs true on 32s and 4.8 gears

Speaking of the gps speed measurent how accurate is it? Ive tryed mine in quite a few vehicles ( even brand new rental cars) it always seems to be 5k off the true speed.

Within 10%
Provided you aren't going up or down a hill the gps is 99.5% correct. Hills can alter your SOG a wee bit as it also calculates the change in altitude

95 with round dash, has newer year CV's and axle splines in front too., last of the wide bodys before the round body ones.
