Lifting a 98 Jimny

Hey my mate has a 98 Jimny wide typicaly seen with an old woman driving but not this one

Well i converted him into loving four wheel driving and he wants to put 29-30inch muddies on it and give it a lift to fit the tyres ( currently has around 27 inch road tires)
Lift kits are quite expensive from online.
Was thinking could you find a spring thats of a similar width but 2inches taller and put it in to give a lift????

Does anyone else own one of these thats modded it up on a budget?

What about coil spacers there pretty cheap?

yeah they would be ideal but are they road legal? I had heard somewhere that they arent??

Thats a good point, I dont think they are road legal but i could be wrong.

does anyone know if they would be or if it was done right with minimal lift would it be easily skipped for a wof??

I run spacers to level my springs and gets a warrant from any garage still. Other trucks I've seen using them as their only lift and they still get warrants. As to whether they are indeed legal I have no idea.

My mates jimny runs 33's with lifted springs. apparently stuff outta the UK is cheaper than the states.

I did think about a body lift but decided not too because it requires a cert and were trying to do it on the cheap

have you had a good read on Auszookers? from memory 30" tyre requires alot of work to fit and 31's require major suspension/ body work to fit.

Jimnys are hard to lift properly as thier radias arm suspension setup has very short arms . This makes it differcult to re-correct the geometry after lifting. Especially for steering. Hence the cost of aftermarket kits.
What are your plans for re-gearing after fitting bigger tyres ?

oh i didnt realise that and had made no allowances or thoughts into steering geomotry good old rookie for ya! wil have to talk to may mate and see what he thinks due to the cost
