Diff Exploding

Post by Macca »

I have had a bad 3 weeks as far as diffs are concerned :? . Blew spiders and axle gears to peices in old diff  , Bought new diff, snapped short side axle rooted bearing and put some cracks into one spider and one axle gear.  I took these to durralloy gear cutters to see if repair was an option but they say no.

Where to know??

does any one have some spare parts for a 4.556:1 diff. or a whole diff for sale. Or know of a place that will repair these gears ??
they only have hairline cracks at the moment and all teeth are present.

I would love to get out the 9" grinder and start hacking at the ifs at the moment but the budget is very tight having just bout this second diff. GRRRR

So if any one has any ideas id love to hear them.

are you running big tyres or have an extra grunt motor in there? thats truly some bad luck  . I hope you remembered to put oil in the diff when you refitted it  :D I did that to my gearbox

Id love to be able to say yes to both of those but only have a 2lte with 31's. Yes i did put oil in  . Nearly forgot to as i was putting it in at 3am.
Think i may be able to fit spiders from any ratio diff. and if this is the case may be able to do a swap with a certain member on here. :)

I have a blown 5.29 diff, all the spider gears and axle gears are fine, think they are all the same, anyway they are free if you need them.

Yeah I am as well, I think its great :D although in this case we have 8 spiders amongst three of us, think we are all just trying to get rid of something we will never use again
