single cab rock crawler

woo hoo a build thread

it's to be used daily as transport to work, will be a bit of a retro rockcrawler, and want it to tow my other beast.
Plan is....it will be a single cab f/d, exo'd, falcons rear, RUF, hi steer, dual cases, diesel, 33's or 35's (wrangler style or a/t)
have the vehicle and most of the required parts already just a power plant left to fig out,thinking the 1kz with a manual pump could well be the go but that's going to reqire another adapter to run the duals(which are avail $$)
other possibilities are a Bulletproof copy (supercharged L series), or a turbo'd 2.8, or 3b.....
any other ideas welcome

p.s cuz.. i think a retro styles would be awesome, but maybe with the same mentality as ya coiled v8 beastie, just offroad only.. not the tow wagon too. i only say that cos as soon as ya got the coon rears and ya start tryin to tow another toy etc, it'll wallow more than rexo after a smorgasboard.. also the fact ya got to worry about lights and panels etc and we both know how forgiving rocks are..

maybe just get a dedicated tow wagon to not pedal/wreck/spend excessively on maintenance..?

then have your retro crawler and a mudder.. the specs i dont have an issue with.. after all, i gots the 3b crawler too..

thats the way i've gone and i'm really glad i have..

Into it Tim.
Make sure you build in enough capability for some proper boots. You know that the rocks need lots of rubber, its not like playing in a pig trough (mud). Mother nature always wins when you stuff it up on the hard stuff.

Looking forward to what you do here, 3b or 13bt would be a bloody good choice I feel. 3 or 5 l also good units.......

tim, just a thought , i have towed my suzuki with my surf ute as it
has little weight in the rear and pushes when turning corners.
your welcome to come have a drive but just something to consider.

I was trhinking of curing the tow problem by having the "never remove" long travel shocks on the back of the rear axle housing, and having another set of shock mounts on the front of the housing.....when I need to tow, a set of air shocks (the towing type not the fox type ) will be thrown on
as for pushing from behind...my transporter is barked.
but fuk it I already have a tow veh and another trailer queen, old school crawler would be a way simplier option

As for power plant reckon the 3b the way to go.
Can take ours right down to idle in 3rd and it'll pull away. Also can run on their side safer than a 1kz and when on those crazy angles you rock guys get on.

looks like it's set to start in about a month as i'm snowed under with working 2 jobs at the mo, but due back to 1 in a couple of weeks after a mate who owns a buisness had an op (and recov) is due back soon, will free me up big time
looking as if the consensus is another queen, think i've sorted a diesel (3b) power plant, and some more parts (or is that shit lying around)

got it some rims and tahs.. 37x14.5's on 10 inch -44offset rims
so will be able to look at getting it wheelable into the shed

Dad and I did a road trip to Nelson and home today, left at 7am home by 6pm complete with another piece in this puzzle...donar truck...., a 1988 IFS manual surf, just been repowered with a 3RZ from a 98 manual hilux.....freaking ideal

also scored some more parts off Rob-mu to do the build, TG twin stick and plenty of other parts..... so as soon as I get some time i'll stop part collecting, yapping and actually make a start
