tailings costello hill track is looped now
jst 2 let everyone know the totara river track is now looped thru to costello hill westport region.
requirements to get thru r winches ,@ least 33 profile mudders, and 2 truck minimum heavy going lift is a must as well . river has to b low to get thru
plenty of ruts, rock, slippery hills to negotiate as well as crossing rivers and streams
I think before you advertise this track you should have atleast been through the full track and understand what it take to get in and out of . As i understand you and one of your mates rolled a truck in there, and to be honest it was one of the easiest sections! Considering you havent been halfway through you seem to be an authority on it?

Good bit of info there nuts.
I tried to drive in from the Tailings end once and seemed to run out track
. I could see it as dotted lines on the map, and could get so far from the costello hill end . Mint that someones put the time in and opened it up!!!!
Nothing wrong with reporting what you have heard man!!!!!!!!!!
Out of curiosity, have you ever tried to drive the Tiropahi Tram track that follows the Four Mile/Tiropahi River into Pakihi??
I tried to drive in and from the were the tram track is sign posted from the coast road (sh6) and got to a washed out crossing. Vehicles had winched through it from what i could see. Tried to find the other end of the track by heading to Pakihi up the road that runs in about three k's south of Charelston.

the end of tailings from costello hill
very tricky to go in from that end watched vid of one truck sliding badly and had 2 winch the front to the right just to get to the bottom and that was on the entrance to the first river crossing .... like i sed b4 it is a tough track and advise anyone wanting to do it make sure u have all the gear and dont do it alone also make sure it hasnt raind as the water levels come up realy fast and swift
as for the other track deisel been up the 4 mile a few times last time they had locked the gate to the other track saying was washed out

how to get to tailings
coming from westport go down the coast road till you get to the totara river just accross the bridge turn left and follow the track to the river ... as u come onto the river bed look accross and to your right u will see a set of tracks that is the start of the tailings .... after that its pretty easy going for a while but u will come to a few creek crossings and make sure the water isn't high .... if u continue watch out for diff breakers in the river beds..... from there on in it gets trickier

tailings
just thought i would up date u all .... ive been right thru the tailings track
it is definitly a weather dependant track... the first half is pretty easy going but get to the second half u have alllot of mud a realy awkward hill to go down as its slippery and very uneavan and steep... at the bottom is a tree u dont want to hit ... then a mud hole to go thru ... once you go down the hill wet or fine u are commited to going the rest of the way thru .... there is a river to cross 2 the end then abt 4 to 5 winches to get up the opther side .... very muddy and big rocks under the mud so care is needed or u will break things i have vid and pics will post latter
