Rim width recommendations for 35x10.5

Evening all.
Just scored a set of Simex tyres today (Trademe)
35x10.5x16
Now need to get some rims to suit.
As they are 10.5" width tyres was thinking 7 inch to put pressure on the beads when aired down.

I currently run my 12.5" width KL71's on 8 inch rims and they work great for my truck.

What are your thoughts?
Note have searched the forum but info is a bit splattered about.

I would go with the 7" rim, when i had my 35" silverstones on 8" rims they come off the bead all the time.

10.5 simexes are pretty skinny but I always got away with running mine down to 10 psi on 8 inch (non beadlock) rims without ever spinning a tube

Funny you say that, I have been looking for awhile and seen some good deals but they are all in the South Island... Shipping is the killer.

Go for 7 inch rims imho. I'm running 35x10.5x16 Silverstones, tubeless, on 8 inch rims. 15psi is the lowest I've run them recently at Sheffield Mud Plug, and I have never popped one off the bead, but I'm constantly digging mud, wood, stones etc out of the bead. I beleave 7 inch rims would help to stop this. More 4x4 tyres need to have that bead protector lip on them I recon.

Simex's and Silverstone's are two different kettle of fish. We ran 35x10.5x15s on 8" rims with either Simex tubes, or tractor tubes for years without issue, down to around 10psi. The 16's might be a different story with slightly less sidewall, but I wouldn't think so.

Having said that, I'd be inclined to try the 7" rims - keep the rim protected a little more by the tyre. We give our Simex's all sorts of abuse and never had any tyre issues, but bent our fair share of rims.

I wouldn't go wider than 8". Simex's fold in at the centre of the tread when aired down, allowing the outer lugs to dig in. Going wider might prevent that from happening.
