Have to replace the V6 in my truck, It's a 3.8l V6 Series 3 ECOTEC out of a VT commodore, I've been offered another engine but the guy's not sure what it came out of, he thinks it's out of a VN or VP, looking at it, it has a tubular pluniam chamber (mine's flat) with 3800 cast into it, 'grey Iorn' cast on the back of the block and GM5 on the side of the block.
How compatable are these two engine's?
will the existing auto bolt up to new engine?
Are the mounts for alt, PS pump etc the same (as mine has modified mounts for clearance)
I don't know alot about these engine's, I'm expecting a bit less power if it's out of a older commodore.

Re: Holden V6 interchangability
personally I would not go backwards to that engine as they had more issues and less power output and you are already setup for the later model engine which is quite hard to set up for originally where as the vn is easy to set up for so is the most commonly used engine. just a big step backwards imo
