Hi Yah All
Has anyone had any issues with Plasma style winch ropes jumping off the winch spool?
You know how wire rope can spring up and jump off the side....Especially when you get a slack bit in the winching.
Does this happen with Plasma???
Trying to decide weather I need to put some side guards to prevent the rope flicking over the top of the side of the drum.
Especially since mine spools over he top of the drum.
Any thoughts.

We,ve never had any issues on the safari. Runs a cruiser pto and when you give rope a good pull when in free spool it just peels off in a nice heap on the ground.
Only issue i'd see with your setup is it pileing up underneath the truck if drum spins to freely.Would make sure the brake has some pressure on the side of drum to prevent it
Re: PTO winch side guides / cage
The rope is much less likely to come off the side with synthetic, but it can still happen. I cut up some plastic breadboards to fit around the top of my drum.
It's especially important for mid/rear mounted winches where you can't see it if you have a problem, we have a similar breadboard arrangement on a mate's winch truck, the plastic is stiff enough to keep the rope in place but will bend out of the way without trashing anything if there is a snarl up, we also have a bungee pulling a bit of the plastic guide against the drum to give adjustable drag to get a balance between easy pulling & too much overrun.
Cheers
