VVILLY TONKA-KZN185

Post by vvilly »

Right here i go in one weeks time my truck will be going under the knife and having a bit of work done to it...

For a start she is a 1997 KZN185 inter-cooled Surf ssrx. plans are;
1 Fitting a KZJ78 solid front end, five link with fox shocks and coil overs.
2 Removing current transmission, transfer case and fitting i think its a 30-43le out of a KZN 130.
3 Removing the rear 185 surf diff assembly and fitting KZJ90-95 (disc Brakes), fox shocks and coils with extended link arms to suit.
4 Front and rear bars, snorkle as well as rock sliders.
5 Remove the ABS and Airbags.
6 35" Maxxis Bighorn 762's

And a couple other goodies on the way

international law on air bags states 10 years, but NZ its 14. this is why i went with 1997. as for the ABS i can remove it for cert.

all signs and labeling i.e dash lights and dash imprints have to to be removed or covered so that there is no presumption that the vehicle has it still fitted.

so she will be road legal

ive seen on some vehicles that have had abs and airbags removed tha certifier puts a sticker on the gauge cluster to say it has been removed

so maybe that is an option? not sure if that can still be done etc

oh yeah sounds like an awesome build good luck :)

Awesome will be watching this with interest as I'd like to go down this road sometime. Wondering why you are gonna remove abs completely? Couldn't you just make a switch so you can turn it off while driving?

Good to meet you in the weekend bud, best of luck with the build and learning! There is always time for learning and plenty to learn when it comes to modifying.

well today Rick and i went out and brought a plasma/ tig AC/DC combo.

Once set up and sorting out the 20 amp plug off i went.

Cut all the brackets of the front diff housing and ground back all the left over welds. Also removed the top panhard mount off the kzj78 chassie.

Doesn't sound like much but bloody hell its time consuming
