ARB 4x4 Accessories MudFest NZ 4th Dec Hampton Downs
Basic concept;
• big paddock
• lots of mud
• lots of noise, horsepower noise
• lots of wheel spin
• multiple vehicles getting stuck
• making it almost impossible to drive in in some areas and completely impossible in others
• we will have most of the paddock open with no course setup to give the driver the choice to go where he wants to go, no doubt he will make bad choice’s
• There will be 2 straight Drag lanes of 150 meters each prepared with a digger for those that want to drag race in the mud.
The size of the paddock is approximately 8 rugby fields, huge, more than large enough to cater for our needs. The land is very swampy all year round and mud should not be a problem
We have car parking for 1500 cars and will also have trade stands and food on site.
We have a large spectator bank overlooking the paddock, good safe viewing.
We also will have a very large mud slide for the kids to play in, might pay to bring a change of clothes.
The entry fee;
• $20 per entrant car includes your pit crew.
• $5 per spectator and kids under 12 free.
if you would like more information please phone

Re: ARB 4x4 Accessories MudFest NZ 4th Dec Hampton Downs
hi there
this sounds realy cool
what is the requirements for the vehicles competeing?
ie wofs, roll cages, trailored vehicles, helmets, seatbelts requirements
.......etc etc
what is the actual structure of the meeting? ie is it going to be 30minutes timed sections last man still moving wins etc
getting the stuck vehicles recovered by whom?
I heard on an 4x4 clubs email that there is going to be water available to wash down with? is this salt water or fresh water, took me years to get all the salt out of the chassis after doing the old clevedon mud drags.
sorry about all these questions but some body had to ask
anyway looking forward to the day
cheers Rohan

Re: ARB 4x4 Accessories MudFest NZ 4th Dec Hampton Downs
Hi Rohan,
Thank you for asking the questions
Helmets and seat belts are a must, Harness belts or original manufacturer belts are acceptable.
Your vehicle does not have to have a WOF, trailered trucks are fine as is the family 4x4 that will go and get the grocery’s on the way home.
Vehicle Safety Standard, as this is a public event and you will be in the public eye, you must ensure that your vehicle is in a safe working order. We will not scrutineer your vehicle but any vehicle that we deem unsafe will get a full refund and their day will be done, they can go play in the Mud slide. Please ensure your vehicle is safe.
We were thinking a 30 minute session as well. Last man standing would stop the guys that try hard from winning, not that’s it a competition. We will have some prizes but I think it should go to the crowd pleasers, your thoughts please guys
Recovering stuck vehicles, now that could be an issue. I am chasing a very large 8 big wheeled tractor at the moment. I will keep you informed.
Wash down, for trucks and people. To be confirmed but the local fire department has a very large water tanker (fresh water) and I think for a donation, at the end of the day they would be more than happy to wash your trucks and more than happy to wash down some of the people.
Thanks people, just fire away with the question and comments.
Cheers Gary

9am for a drivers briefing and that won't take to long and then into it.
we will have to get everyone to sign an indemnity form (drivers and passengers) and that form will be handed out at the gate as you arrive.
cheers

I am getting a bit worried about the numbers, not the lack of numbers but how many we can take. The phone has been flat out, good response from the 4WD people and the trade stands are filling as well. Radio Hauraki have come on board with a big campaign for us so that should ensure the spectators. NZ 4WD magazine has done a great article and all this really helps. This was only posted on “Offroad Express” late Friday night and its up to 460 views. We may have to do a pre entry so we can limit the numbers as I don’t want the event to resemble Auckland traffic on a long weekend.
Your thoughts guys

Ha ha you mentioned full mud anything goes and no rules in the one sentence and now surprised that you have been ran over
Any red blooded block worth his mudtyres will be wanting to be there to show that HE is the MAN
Im stoked that the numbers are lining up for you
Top effort
Re: ARB 4x4 Accessories MudFest NZ 4th Dec Hampton Downs
The mud drags sound great.
Bit worried about the open paddock, slippery surfaces and trucks going in all directions.
Sounds like a demolition derby with 2.5 tonne vehicles.
And just a reminder. Indemnity forms don't stand up in court. They just mean that you didn't do your best to identify the hazards and keep people safe.
Cheers

Gary I think it would be a wise choice to put a limit on entry as you could have every man and his dog out there, dont want it to turn out to be over run and to over crowded.
Iam very keen, looking forward to it
.

I know I'll get jumped on for this, but maybe limiting it to members of any 4wd club could work to keep numbers down?

We will have a very clear safety line between the drags and the open paddock. The paddock will be open but in a clockwise direction, hopefully this will cut down the chance of an “issue” I don’t want a demo derby.
Indemnity forms are always going to be a problem as you all know you can't regulate idiots. If anyone is putting others in danger their day will be done and they will be on the trailer, easy as that.
cheers

How about a non club group and a club group, this event is a work in progress and the day is all about you guys. Your advice and comments are appreciated.

Gary, I think it may be an idea to figure out what the maximum capacity can be for entrants, also if you are doing 10 trucks at a time for 30mins each then may be best to work out if your wanting to have 1/2/3 sets of 30mins through out the day.
Then just work out how long you want the event to go for, then you should have a fair idea on how many trucks you can handle.
Cheers
