after a hilux 2.8

Hi, have searched numerous threads but havn't found what im after.
Want to know what specifics to check when looking at a hilux ute early 90s with the 2.8 diesel.
Ive test driven a couple so know roughly how they go, but what should I be looking at/ for?

Also are there any differences between the imports and nz new? (except kms )
