I'm thinking the best option os over the road from the Mobil station in Amberley. Enough room for parking, lots of pies :D and Nor Wester next door for good coffee to go.

Steve

Hows 10:30am sound?

Having said that, not sure if I can make it due to some potential family committments, but at least that gives everyone a start time and a place to meet.

Entry point, I recommend the golf course as theres some ruts and mud there then through up the river to double-corner road bridge for lunch/bbq where those who want to go out can do so, then on up to SH1 from there. My 2c

Hi all, As Steve has already said meet at Amberly opposite Mobil Service Station. An alteration to the time.!!!!! MEETING TIME AT AMBERLY IS
10.00am . Departing for Waipara river at 10.15am sharp .Radio Ch; PRS 19 . CB am use 11 . My cell PH 0274318993.
The reason for earlier start time is :- I would like as many members of ORE to attend as possible , as in future it may be compulsory to attend a training day before going on any club trips. I'am hoping to have the Training component of the day finished by 12.30am, giving members that don't wish to spend the rest of the afternoon with us on the trip part of the afternoon the chance to attend and then have the afternoon to themselves, and those that can't make the training session can catch up at Double Rd bridge for trip/play up the river.
The plan is to have lunch at the bridge and start a Trip about 1.30pm.--------- but you know what happens to plans   .
GET DIRTY, FITZY.

PS , rick:- you will need to have your own vehicle for the training day
there will be NO SHARING VEHICLES you may be aloud to bring the
Prado, just make sure the Lux is fulled and ready for the new driver.

jeep4079, Hi Frank, you will find Amberly about 10 kilometers north on state highway 1 from where we started at the Ashley bridge on sunday trip and the Mobil service station is on the main road very easy to find.
If you like you can give me a call and make arrangements to follow me out there. Ph 3387202 or 0274318993. And don't worry if I was in your country I'd be completely lost.
Great to have you along and once we got those gear selections sorted out and you confidence up you and the Pajero became a weapon, next year when your finances allow and you get the modifications done,------ look out you will be kicking all our butts. Looking forward to catching up next week.
GET DIRTY, FITZY.

As a local of the area, might I again politely suggest that the training and trip occur between Stringers Bridge and the SH1 roadbridge. Heading either West or East of Double corner bridge @ present is no place for newbies (read soft, soft, soft pea-shingle and deep scoured holes after recent flooding); add to that profile nesting birds and it would be very unwise to proceed on this course.

I'm happy to recce the trip route before the weekend, but the last time I was up ther playing a few weeks back it seemed ok - there is pea-shingle, but theres always pea shingle in the Waipara and knowing how to drive on it is a fairly important skill for people driving many of the Canterbury rivers...

Maybe us locals (Kev, Rik and I) could go for an evening zoom to check the proposed route and make any changes that need to occur before this weekend? Guys?

As you know Steve, I did a recce up there yesterday with the family and between the golf course & SH1 bridge we recovered a hilux, suzuki and a beach buggy. Sure there will be more than sufficient capable vehicles and experienced drivers to ensure safe passage, but with an anticipated large turnout why plan to traverse an ecologically sensitive path when there is a viable, less sensitive alternative (there is no shortage of pea-shingle and other training challenges to practice on between Stringers Bridge & SH1)? Indeed, that was the route advocated by Al in the early planning for this training day (read back).

In good concience, and in my capacity as ORE 4x4 assoc. Southern PRO, I can not support the proposed route as it currently stands; in respect of the same I will subsequently withdraw from training day if not re-routed, and wish all attending a safe and pleasant journey.
