Challenger Rear Springs

Hi everyone just a question.

I have looked on here about Pajero having Safari springs fitted to the rear for some lift.

What about the challenger? Would they be in the same boat?

Its just the wifes one is basically useless always hitting bumpstops when loaded with a few small things but it sits even so I dont know if this is normal for one of those.

If it can fit safari springs which ones would I be getting front or rear?

Na they don't fit into a Challenger.

i put LWB Safari springs into a LWB Pajero.. didn't work well!! (cough - sat at full extension of shocks all the time - cough)

Yea you only need to sit a safari spring beside a Paj one and the size difference in the wire will tell you it'll ride like a Hilux

Ok sweet cheers for the replies. In regards to Safari springs in a pajero are they the front or rear?


I might just have to put some new springs into the challenger to help lift it up or maybe some airbags.

My challenger has those old air shocks it the rear, the type you can pump up with a bicycle pump.

Great for any heavy towing, and can lift the back a good inch or 2, but give a hard ride, and usually leave them deflated for daily running around.

Was told those safari spring do infact fit challengers (Same diameter's as pajeros), but yeah give at least 3-4 inches, which then got too complicated for me as was told that leads into having to change bumpstops, shock mounts and other stuff which is beyond my limited capability!

I bought some challenger springs a few years ago for my Pajero then discovered how different they were.

I had a photo somewhere of the two side by side but blowed if I can find it now.

I had some Heavy duty Challenger ones (16mm), whipped out one Paj one, from then on it was quite obvious, the Challenger ones were a good 4 inches shorter than standard Paj ones, and the Challenger ones were about 1 cm bigger in overal diameter.

due to my ridiculous ride height im going to guess that they were front safari springs.

Hey man, what are your shocks like? I've been in cars with stuffed rear shocks and when they hot a bump the wheel bounces up to the bump stop. I'm guessing it due to a lack of compression damping. Might be worth a check.

I got under it today and the shocks are pretty worn, they compress but dont extend so time for new shocks I reckon So you were spot on Churchill.

Also I noticed that the springs are really soft so they definately need to be updated as well as when you put 3x bags of compost in its about 1.5inch's away from the bumpstops it just drops that much.

I had a look at a set of safari springs Coxy gave me a while back and with a little bit of cutting they could fit and that will lift it but I dont thing the wof man will like that

haha as much as the wife doesnt want me to modify her wagon she has no choice now as I said I will do a 2inch lift if Im going to do any suspension changes.

I have a rear set of ARB 50mm lift springs only 3year old if these are of use to you contact me Have had a new set made to give 75mm lift on rear also done top end filp front and wind up T bars 50mm

have a chat with peter munro commercials on blenheim rd chch, i replaced shocks and springs in my 96 diesel challenger, they measured them up got them in from aussie ( old man emu ) i think, as pajero didn't fit..
