My escudo needs your help:)

Hi everyone!

I've always wanted to have my own 4wd and finally i bought a 1991 3 door suzuki eskudo (automatic, because i'm a girl so i'm allowed to:) ). (yay!) But here comes my problem. I also dreamed about going off road but unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge or experience to make up my mind about the modifications i have to make. The only thing i know is that at the moment i can't afford lift kits, but still i want to be capable of going off road. What would you recommend?

Really looking forward to learning something from your experience and maybe later on after the modifications meeting you somewhere in bushes (if you ever see an escudo badly stuck in mud, that would probably be me:)

Hi Rimma, good choice of toy. Add your whereabouts in your profile so we can target you with local assistance. What sort of offroading are you aiming for (hardout/ touring or just softroading)?

Best thing would be to touch base with others in the local 4wd scene and save for some mud/at tyres (Dependant on the local conditions/ your predicted usage)

All the best traction aids/ lift kits etc dont mean anything if you cant get traction because your tyres wont allow you to move.

Lots of vitara/escudo users here and there are lots of options with everything from budget builds through to top of the line off the shelf stuff.

Without knowing where you are... join a club, some of the guys in my local club have been great helping me out with getting into 4wding.

And do you plan on doing the work yourself? Can get prohibitively expensive otherwise.

Welcome to ORE.

There are many simple (and cheap ) mods you can do too a zuki.

Good start would be save up for some 29-30" mud tyres.

Theres a few diff ways of doing cheap lifts but as previously said nothing will save you if you dont have good shoes fitted

tyres first, They make a huge difference. I am on a tight as budget too and have only put crap muds on it, removed bumpers and thats it. Still out drive others.

A cheap way to lift them is to put LWB springs in with VL commodore shocks and flip the front strut caps for more down travel.

Thank you Lincoln! What sort of wheels and tyres do you have? I'm looking at 15 inch steel wheels and probably 30" tyres, do you think that will do for a start?

I have 16" Steels (standard Grand Vitara wheels) with 29.5" tyres, they rub a bit but most of that has been cured with a hammer.

30"s should be fine, quite a few people run them. You might need to wind the steering stops out a bit to avoid rubbing on full lock.
