surf rear window problems
so my bastard surfs rear window has stopped working , im at a lose as to the problem , the motor works fine so i figure its in the circuit somewere , the switch is getting power to it but nothing coming out when pressed down , however when pressing up there is power coming out but still no power at the wotor end? could this possibly be a fault relay? and were are the relays for the rear window hidden? if somebody had a wiring diagram for it that would be very helpful , im trying to sort the problem myself because i cant afford to take it to a sparky ; apprentice wages suck

Re: surf rear window problems
First give the switch a good clean.
You may even need to open it up, the contacts can carbon up.

If you break it... build it stronger.

Re: surf rear window problems
most folk rewire them with 6pin switch (constant 12V feed) basically when either up or down polarity of + to - is reversed to make window motor spin either clockwise or anticlockwise
in the notes as a DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) switch.
good luck

Re: surf rear window problems
1stly make sure the rear wiper (if fitted) is in the correct rest position. If it is even slightly off the rest it will stop the rear window from working. There is a cut off switch in the window circuit.
Next make sure the switch (up in the front console) is clean and the contacts are OK. It will involve removing the switch and stripping it.
Then remove the tailgate interior trim and lube the window regulator and tracks. Don't use CRC it will bugger up the rubber. Use a silicon on the rubber runners and a light grease on the regulator.
Hope that helps

If you listen next to the left rear gear compartment thing, when you turn the key do you hear a faint click? This is where the relay is, and if so, the relay is shagged

Re: surf rear window problems
The first gen Surfs with fibreglass roofs have a button switch as well to stop the window working when roof is removed. Cant remember which side it is on but about half way the fg roof in the side of the deck
Re: surf rear window problems
yea the switch is on the left hand side. it caused me some headachces

Re: surf rear window problems
Ive got this same problem at the mo. Switch does nothing at all anymore but it works fine(ish) off the key.
Would it be best to strip the switch and clean? or is there something else to look for as well?

Re: surf rear window problems
I had the same problem. It was just dirty contacts. All I had to do was take the switch out of the centre console and clean the contacts with a bit of crc and it was sweet

Re: surf rear window problems
Hey guys, got a bit of a problem with my 94 surf's tailgate window. Started out working reasonably, would always go all the way down and usually about half to 3/4 the way up off both the interior button and the key hole on the gate. So I looked up a few u tube vids and people were mostly fixing them with a good coat of grease on the cogs and runner that it attached to the window. I gave the whole system a liberal coating on all moving parts with marine grease. The motor is powering from both the key and interior button, but the window doesn't go up at all. It will wind down, no probs, but virtually no upward movement at all since I greased it. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance
