Oct 22 - 23 2011
My Weekend starts NOW, Buggy is finished and loaded, we leave at 9.00am tomorrow morning for Inglewood. Why do we always wait till the last night to get things finished
Re: Oct 22 - 23 2011
Well today I bought a new fire extinguisher to replace my empty one, then decided to fix the back door on the zuk. It now locks and can be opened form the out side. Bloody amazing
Also just heard that the norwest guys and some naki guys that went up to Thompsons today are now down to 3 trucks only
. Not sure how many have gone out but it sounded like a good effort. They are meant to be doing more tracks tomorrow but who knows now.
Shame I couldn't make it down though.

Re: Oct 22 - 23 2011
I'll be heading up to Woodhill on Sunday morning for some fun.
Hopefully not to much panel damage... bit hard with a whale.

Re: Oct 22 - 23 2011
spent all day sat rewiring the whale after rev lights shorted out and all melted together they are not protected by a fuse so burnt all the loom out from from the rear left light right upto the front bulkhead was a pain in the ass but managed to get it all done and rev lights are now fused

The Mudhog started to run rough 100M from home and just got back before it stopped and wouldn't run at all
Would turn over, but had no spark!!!
Spent Thursday afternoon and yesterday trying to get it sorted
I started making some phone calls and spoke to a few different guy's to try and sort it out and get an idea on what it might be
After spending 3 hours checking wiring and cleaning connection, we found it was a broken socket pin in the black amplifier box on the side of the dizzy, I only found it after Shaun pulled the plug off and said was there meant to be two or three pins in there?
After cleaning out more Woodhill Mud
and having a check in the Haynes bible I could see that one of the pins was snapped off!!
I picked up a new one and started the job of replacing it.
First thing was that the dizzy needed to come out to get to the screws holding in the black box..Shit first time for everything I guess
I spent a fair bit of time cleaning around the dizzy and then marking everything as a few people had said if you get the dizzy back in out of place it's a bitch to get sorted
Marked the dizzy cap, leads, dizzy body to the block and pulled it out... Shit here goes nothing.
While I had the dizzy out I decided to try and waterproof it. I set about doing this by filling the two small holes on the bottom of the dizzy body (these let steam and water in) and drilling and tapping two new ones and fitting grease nipples that I had drilled out with a 3mm drill to just below the clips that hold the dizzy cap on. I had been told that you need to have air flow to help keep condensation from building up under the dizzy cap.
Now it's time to refit the dizzy...Here goes... lined up all the marks... first time they didn't all line up, pull it back out and try again, this time everything lined up
Now to try and start the truck.....Turned the key....and...it fired up as soon as the key was turned and sounded great
I finished fitting the air tube from the new grease nipples, one to the airbox to create suction and the other to in side the cab to supply clean dry air.
Now all I need to do is try it in some water!!!
Cheers Brett

Shame I couldn't make it down though.
Here,s the full story with some illustrations

We had 8 trucks to do Thompsons.

Some trucks had problems before we even got on the track (hibrid zuks

Easy, fun drive up Te Aroha side. Ian even got his Whale up to the summit.
Had an awesome play in all the areas on the way down too.

Most of the guys had other places to go or went home after Thompsons.
Graeme sat on the rev limiter too long and a death rattle was the end result. So back at camp some rush repairs were required, with the verdict of terminal being pronounced.

The Vatara, had a water pump replaced and the clutch cable jury rigged with Num 8 fencing wire.
So that left us with only three trucks for Maratoto.
Paid the fee and went to the hut and looked at the recent work done to the track. Looks good

(notice the only truck with out it's bonnet up?)

Got to the hut, the white zuk with hilux diffs had stripped and pulled out 3 of the 4 bolts on the left hand steering arm, so it was jury rigged to get back out. This meant only 2 trucks to do the loop. So it was decided to just poke our noses up the loop. Drove about a tenth of it and turned around.
Travelled back home to cook a BBQ for over 30 guests coming to watch the game.
More pics and film will surface for sure.
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Re: Oct 22 - 23 2011
Spent part of yesterday fitting my spare guards to the front of the bighorn so I could do some cutting and hammering to them so I could then start to use it haha as its been sitting in the driveway not moving because I couldnt turn. End result is I can now turn corners without ripping everything up.
Was mean to head to hellensville to get another bighorn this weekend but there was a issue with the garage and could get it out so thats next weekends trip now

Stoped at Dan Cowpers workshop on way to scrutineering to change plugs, modify front lower arm mounts for new arms, make new brackets for brake hoses etc...

Accelerator pump diaphragm didn't turn up, so couldn't fix that.
So I pulled the engine out of my Mini instead. Now to strip all the paint/crap etc from the engine bay...

Yeah, I think it came out tops. Did more track k's, more winch metres than any other and drove the 300 odd K down there and back

This is all the video I have.
Enjoy

Well after Thompson's, and gave the truck a clean, I went and moved my antenna from the front guard to the the back of the truck this way it is out of harms way so it wont get knocked by those damn trees.

The antenna does not look straight up and down I still have to rework the mount but this is were it is going to go.
Cheers.
