Old Army Trailer

Post by Furgus »

So a year or so ago I bought myself an ex army trailer, bit of a mess with the classic rust in the base where the water sits, but the chassis was in good order & it had a WoF & rego.

Since then it's been well used on the old property & was excellent when shifting house a few months ago, imagine the back of the 130 & the trailer fully stacked with firewood, well I dread to think of the combined weight, but I suspect it was a little more than allowed for a unbraked trailer set up!! The only mods until today was to switch the tow hitch back to the original pintle set up.

So the last WoF ran out a while ago, & I've been too busy to look at it for a while, so today I hitched it up & checked it out, all seemed fine except for one indicator, no biggy just a blown bulb, yeah right. The previous owner had done a bit of a hack job on the wiring & there were junction boxes & junction points all over, some wrapped with insulating tape must most not. So I decided to rip out all the old shit & replace with new, in fact the only thing that remained was the plug!!!! Where the old lights had been were some rather ugly holes so I chopped up some checkerplate & fixed the new LED's to those, all new wiring with ALL joints soldered & heatshinked.

Next I gues I'll have to tackle the rust........

Plans for the future are to turn this into an offroad camper trailer with an all alloy tub, may be a while though.......
