only thing that would put me off is the cart springs

Have to laugh when they call a vehicle with leaf springs "luxury model" Especially when that model comes in coils too.

I had a day off today (finally) and took a 94 Safari LWB low roof turbo for a spin round to Croz and out to work, the price went up by a grand between me picking it up and returning it and it was already overpriced farkin car dealers
I looked at several landcruiser 80's...the cheapest was 20G and all were in worse condition than my current DD.....Then I got back in the bighorn and was headed for home.....damn that thing was peppy and nice to drive (even with a crook head).
Decison made
It's now with Croz as I just don't have the time to fix it at the mo, it's going to get a new head, pyro gauge, water temp gauge, cambelt, water pump, radiator flush, gaskets etc.
I figure just before Xmas ain't a good time to but a tow vehicle...having a dead DD pushes you into a corner to make a decision.......better the devil you know........I'll have something to sell/trade....and i'm still waiting for a decision on our EQ damaged home that we can't live in
So if you see a good 24valve 80 series on TM, or you're selling one....PLEASE....post it in this thread, I will buy one...in good time

not a 24v but has part time kit and new spring/shocks with poly bags fitted in rear(car yard don't know it though).
Is on the pricey side but Cash talks.

if your getting the bighorn fixed then maybe while your at it you get a big arse front mount intercooler fitted at same time along with a bigger exhuast(road friendly).will really reduce the intake temps heaps, and the egts.
Basicially will de-stress the motor somewhat.
Would be a bit off insurance in protecting your investment in the motor and help with the towing duties. Esp if towing the queen to west coast etc.
Mate had same issues with pajero,used it for towing big boat.(7mtr alloy) Was planning on fixin motor and flicking it off but did the above mods and now doesn't wanna get rid of it.

Slight deviation of thinking, Bighorn well on road to completion and getting a bit jaded with OTT prices on cruisers got me thinking a tad outside the square.
Why not buy a flatdeck truck big enough to park the lux on the back, tow the poptop at the same time, my car transporter's gotta be worth a few K and a flat deck truck would be awesome as a garden trailer as well.....and low and behold they're farkin good value for money....something like this

i was gonna head down the road of that too but with the ongoing cost of cof's and road users plus reg and upkeep.. then ya got the whole license class thing when its fully loaded up..

in all eventuality, i looked at it in depth too tim. a daily driver with multi use and extra seating with a trailer reg ended up being cheaper than using my dyna what with road users, cof and reg etc.. think reg was $600 a year. a trailer around $100. big offset right there. then relatively low maintenance of trailers etc..

anyhoo, thats my take on things.. hence the inferno and impending trailer..

I went and finished off the Bighorn at 4wdacc yesterday, it's farkin mint, I supplied them with brand new head, gaskets, water pump, cam belt set, radiator, rad hoses, trans cooler, and the boys removed the EGR shit.
I fitted a couple of essential towing gauges...EGT and water temp... Done.
So keeping it
So further to the master plan....I bought yet another hilux surf...a beam axled 1985 stock std (apart from a 2.4 turbo mtr) gem....going to be my daily driver ( will start a thread soon ) will have, some nice mags, some 31's, a good stereo, and a snorkel...perhaps a couple of other mods and that's it
Wife having the bighorn and have a 1998 mitsi lancer 4 door (1600 DOHC)
up for sale
when I need the bighorn as a tow truck she gets the surf for her and the kids

Bought an 80 series today, not the 24valve model but it's diff locks front and rear and the price was right, motor to pull out repair it, then I should have a real nice tower

Dammit I had that truck on my watch list also Be a good truck with a new motor and a good clean. It was a good buy.

Nope not Dans truck
Found the fault today, No 3 big end bearing spun, damaged crank.
Motor to extract.... a crankshaft to repair (if in measure) or replace, anyone got a good 2nd hand one

I was there yesterday as well fitting new Tahs, he spent an hour of his time with waka and gave so much good advice for free.

VERY much so, pretty much the reason I winched it on the trailer and took it to Ricks, lying on the ground I couldn't even see the 2 bolts to get the extensions on to them, was easy as on the hoist

Finished, I had MPL in chch recondition the engine (long block) I picked it up Tuesday, I spent Wed, Thurs assembling engine, Fri, Sat fitting engine, it's now reg, wof and on the road running like a gem

Many, many thanks yet again to Rick at 4wdaccessories in Christchurch for allowing me the use of his hoist forklift and workshop, very hard work done relatively easy on my own

Not sure Jeremy I will measure one next time it's off, they are commonly called "truckers" got them from a mate years back, were on Dad's hilux for a while then sat in the shed for the last few years awaiting the arrival of an 80 series
