Trailing arm suspension bushes. What type work Best?

Post by IcedJohnno »

Hey Guys
About a year ago I replaced all 6 of the bushes in the rear arms of my KZJ-71 Prado (square shape).
I discovered last weekend that all 4 of the rear ones adjacent to the axle have slogged out!
The 1st set (factory lasted at least 180,000 kms, including a reasonable amount of flexing when off-roading.
The replacement set have lasted about 30,000 kms! F all off-roading too sadly ((.

I bought this set through SAS, and had been told that they were exactly the same as the factory ones. Obviously Not!
I want good ones that not only last but allow the axle to flex as well. Nolathane F all use for that, so I'm not going down that road.

Can any one recommend where I can get factory spec ones?
I don't really want to spend Toyo prices, if I can help it. I do want them to both Work and Last though.

I am told that Safari ones and 80 Series ones may be similar.

Cheers John

I had the exact same experience with my Surf .
Except mine only lasted 2 trips

I'm know using 2nd hand trailing arms with stock bushes and it's all good again.

I am using some from The Mount Shop.
They are Nissan ones...Have serrations on the tube which stop them slipping when clamped up.
There is a post on here somewhere with P/N's ahhh found it
http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... op#p238282

They flex well but I don't think they will go the distance...
But the price is heaps better than Toyota..

I have a set of bushes from Don Kyatt sitting on the shelf waiting to go in ...so I can't tell you how they compare to OEM, but I do know they are the same as front GQ bushes because we put the same bushes in the GQ (although its too soon to tell how long they will last).

I replaced all the bushes in my 80 series with ones from Don Kyatt about 12 months ago. So far they seem to be doing the job with 40,000 km under them with a few trips offroad. Give Jim a call there - he's a good dude. And they sponsor our winch challenge so good supporters so great to support them.

Just rang Toyota
They don't do the bushes seperately! Have to buy the whole arm at $1k & 2 weeks from Japan !!!!
WTF! How come parts that wear out, are not sold as seperate items?

The Mount Shop are saying $35 per bush as trade prices. Lets hope they last more that 1 year unlike the last set from SAS.

Mike; you lazy BUM, read my initial post. Yes I could turn them up from Nolathane, even got some that size in stock, however as I actually want use my truck off-road, I want the damn thing to be able to flex up. Nolathane wont compress like rubber, thus flexure will be sweet FA.

Current Rant over.

Anyone else suggest anywhere else to go to for reliable suspension bushes?

Tried BNT a year ago. They only did plastic ones NFG if you want flex.

Has anyone bought factory Nissan GQ ones recently? Any idea of availability or price?

Yet to do anything as I am busy at work and have a work vehicle for everyday driving.

Have chased up Cochrane Nissan and factory bushes are about $55 ea. Does anyone know the Nissan part numbers or vehicle year and model that will fit the 71 or 78 series Prados ?

89+ GQ, I know Caster correction Bushes are the same for Cruiser and GQ Safari. As for new from Toyota, we have to use OEM parts on all Landcruisers at work and they just throw out Arms when the bushes are slogged out because you cant get new OEM bushes, seems a Farkin waste but just how it is I guess. Interested to see how you get on, as mine probably need done, will probably go with Castor correction ones though.
I see they make rubber ones now too..
