Hi I have a 2.7 td terrano and I have been running it on vege oil for the last few years and it has had no bad effects on the engine apart from having to change the fuel filter every couple of months.
Heres the issue ....... is this motor particularly hard to bleed?
I have tried filling the filter and using clamps to block off the fuel lines before removing the filter but every time I change it its a drama getting the car to run smoothly quickly.
I crack the injectors and pump the filter but its still a pain in the arse particularly if I am on a trip and get caught short and have to change filters on the road.....any advice?

Re: terrano filter bleeding
Although I run my TD27 on stock diesel, I have never had an issue bleeding it after changing the fuel filter.
I do not even block/clamp the fuel lines when the filter is off, nor do I pre fill the new filter.
I simply change it out, reconnect the lines and press the plunger on top of it untill it becomes hard to push and it starts every time. No issues.
I have been doing this every 10,000km for the past 5 years without an issue.

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Same as you Pete. I disconnect the out port and press primer till clean and clear fuel comes out then reconnect and press plunger a few more time and that is it.
Cheers,
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
Re: terrano filter bleeding
i wonder if the thicker vege is causing a bit of hassle.
have you got a fuel heater installed ? just check you don't have something fitted that can cause an air lock.
if you need to crack an injector then your getting lots of air into the pump. thats why (as others already mentioned) it pays to pull the filter outlet hose off and pump till fuel comes out, then put hose back on.
the other thing is that you have an air leak somewhere and its sucking air past a hose join or filter o-ring into the fuel. with vege being thicker it would be more prone to air leaks.

Re: terrano filter bleeding
I did one on my truck a wee while back and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it bled with the new filter.... Put the old filter back on and worked immediately. In the end I just scrapped the new filter and put it down to a faulty filter. Also tried replacing the short fuel lines with clear hose so I could see exactely what was happening and seemed to have air getting in from within the filter somehow? I spent many hours trying to work that one out...
With the old filter it it basically just primed itself after turning over a few times and running on idle a bit. (I got the newer TD27ETi in a 96 R50 terrano)
Might be worth trying to change filter brands as silly as it sounds?

filter seal is stuffed. tho if you fit them dry they can grab as you screw the filter on and it pops the seal off the filter. pays to wet the seal with fuel.

Re: terrano filter bleeding
thanx for the replies guys much appreciated I have thought about the viscosity of the vege oil but I blend it with unleaded and its pretty close to diesel. I agree about the brand of filters tho the latest was different from my regular and the bleeding was worse than normal.
