I beleive we hav two days of it sorted, One day in that block of Rangie lux's, another day in Rotovaga's round Ririwhakaitu and another track that I'm busting to do. DJ has that covered i believe.

Perhaps anotyher day in Pureora aswell, there;s lots to do there!!!!

I'm probably not going to be able to make this due to work issues at the moment. I was originally planning it but someone else who is definitely going should start setting things in concrete.

I'll probably know later in the week what is happening for me.

So everyone still keen for those dates??

I want to make it a three day trip if we can, well at least a saturday late morning untill Monday mid afternoon trip. If people are keen to do something on Friday 20th, then we can work that in to!!!!!!!

I was thinking that we could start off in Pureora, camp the night there, head off to vega's and do DJ's sectret mission and the Riri puddle, and then the next day do those tracks we did last year near Lake Rotoiti (i think it was) or something else that local knowledge may lend itself to :wink:

The other one is to start in Nat Park on the Friday, then to Pureora, then to Vegas.........

Depends on how many days off people have.

No I didnt book them as there was really no one staying in them, either in their tents or in their trucks. I can book them tomorrow for you if you want.

I definitly won't be making it now. I've run out of work(2 weeks ago) and there isnt any more so I can't afford to come as I've got to get home back to chch to be unemployed :cry:

Hey, least the Rover will get some attention, i have seen what happens in the shed when people are between jobs!!!!!

As for the trip:

Lets say at this stage we stay in Pureora on Saturday night and Vega's on Sunday night.

Have had a chat to Rangielux and we can go for a play in the Nagroma block and stay there if we want. Be interested to have a look at some of the other tracks around the park to.

I guess what i want to know at this stage is who, besides Wopass is dependant on a tow wagon for the weekend?? That dictates weather we use through routes, or have to return to a central point at the end of each day............

So who's coming??

..... and thats looking more marginal, just got a call from the boys they've just blown the winch on my bully :shock:

Depends. How shiney and what do you drive??

Moriarty is bringing his Korrando, but he doesn't mind the scratches and likes to put it through its paces. He has mud tyres too. Thats the most shiney truck coming, so if you think you could keep up with that and don't mind a few scratches then thats probably ok...........

You will need rated tow hooks as a minimum on any trip :wink:

If it's a day like today AT tyres wouldn't get you very far at all

With regards to Pureora and shiney trucks and keeping them shiney I wouldn't advise it (there is plenty of scenic metal roads along the way tho). Probably ok in the ngaroma block but not down bog inn way.I took a guy with a quite tidy ute along recently and said to him only go as far as you want then jump in with me. But he got carried away abit (as happens) and next thing you know the utes got a whole heap of deep scratches and two broken corner lights :cry:

What make were the hooks?? I bought some nice shiney chrome Warn hooks once,and they don't have the rating stamped on them.

If they are proper recovery hooks, and are mounted suitably, then they will be ok for this trip. If they are no good, we'll let ya know,and just have to be carefull were we let ya go so you don't get stuck really badly :lol:

Still working on the itinerary, and the itinerary will be based on who's coming on the trip and the vehicles they drive.

i would like to go for a look at the Bog Inn tracks, but might not be the right trip to do that on.

So far i'm planning to :

Saturday:

Meet in Pureora at about 9:30 - 10.00am and head into the Nagroma block, spend the day playing there and exploreing. Set up camp and have a good night...............

Sunday:

Head of to vega's, and go round as much of Lake Ririwhakaitu as we can depending on the level of the lake. Then onto do Dj's run. Not sure about were to stay that night yet, need to chat to DJ.

Monday:

Head out to lake Rotoehu and do some of the tracks in there, perhaps have a go at the trig track aswell, last time i was there it was looking pretty entertaining,but weturned back as time was getting on......

Finish the trip in the afternoon depending on how far people have to travel home.

I think Ben and Rangie lux are only coming out for 1 of the days, so that clear's up our trailered vehicle issues nicely.

How's that sound to everyone??

Would like to tag along on Sunday and Monday, have 91 Surf not worried about body work...just need some better tyres...can someone recommend a suitable tyre that would go onto std Surf rims? Cheers

Goodyear MTR's seem to be the flavour of the month :wink:

Cost effective mud tyres are also the Firestone ATX 23 degree, and the Maxxis Buckshot Mudders. Both seem to go ok on a Surf.

Kumho Road Venture M/T are good aswell.

Oh, and Perrelli (sp?) Scorpions are good, and can be cheap aswell.

Where are you based, i know a really cheap place to get the Perrelli's from :wink:

A mate of mine is running 32 X 11.5 R15 Maxxis Mudders on his standard surf alloys with no mods to the suspension. No rubbing at all.

More Scheming and time for an updated plan.

Seems that people are keen for a three day mission.

So to try and get the best bits in, and cater for those with less road orientated vehicles such as Wopass :wink:

:

Saturday

Meet in Pureora, do the Nagroma block and Bog Inn. Camp out some where, or stay at HQ.

Sunday

Driver the fire breaks to Rainbow mountain and do the rainbow mountain track, then head round Lake Ririwhakaitu. Camp at the lake.

Monday

Head up towards Whakatane, and come back to Murapara off road. Tripwould end back at Murapara. Probably the best day tripwise.

OR, head towards Whakatane off road and come back to Rotorua via SH30 and possibly do the tracks near lake Rotoehu. Depends on time as last day of the trip. .

How does that sound??

If we made it a four day adventure, DJ suggested a great scheme for a trip that circles Rotorua. I have chosen the bits that i really want to do, but we do miss out on a couple of really great tracks around the Mamuku's and Lake Rotoehu.

Heaps of fun, you follow a track round the lake that goes through the scrub, in some places you are driving in the actual lake, and the far side has some pretty dep ruts and huge truck swallowing bogs. In saying that i went round it piece of cake in my surf on road tyres with only a couple of tows. I was being carefull and fluked a hell of a lot of rut straddling though :lol:
