Video Camera Mounts

Hi Guys,

Just got a new 720p chinese knock off video camera for the truck. But the in car mount wobbles like hell:



You don't notice it on sped up footage:



but on realtime its awful:



It has the standard camera screw thread in the bottom so will attach to a standard mount, it also has a handle bar mount:

know a guy that runs a camera in his race car and had those issues. Now has it mounted on box that is suspended from all four corners by rubber bands.Took a bit of experimenting to get amount of bands right but can now watch race footage without a hint of shake.
Doesn't look as cool as that though

I've got a contour on my motorbike (handlebar mount) and it wobbles like hell. Apparently the magnetic mounts are better (on the fuel tank).

In the truck, I mounted it to the dashboard using the self-adhesive pads which were supplied with the kit. No wobble at all even on the rough stuff.

go to DSE and buy one of their very very cheap miniature camera tripods. They have small 6" aluminum legs and are complete junk.

Pull the tripod to bits and take from it the top assembly with locking ball joint which screws into base of camera.

Make your own bracket out of aluminum flat bar or similar that you can screw down to the location of your choice. Screw the ball joint assembly to the bracket.

Done, rock solid camera mount. for like $20.

Yea thats what I was thinking, have to go to JayCar at lunch so was going to see if they had one...

Have similar camera without Poseidon written on it and it has a much shorter plastic mount and suction cup. I've tried it mounted on the push bike handle bars and in the car and was fine. Haven't tried it in the Nissan yet because that is spread across the garage floor.
You need a mount that is as solid as possible (unless its in a race car with near solid mounted engine etc) because the car body is already cushioned from the most sever vibration.

I think the further away the camera is from the mount the more vibration you'll get.
The cheaper knock off cams are bloody good for the money.
I think the GoPro cameras have built in anti shake software eliminating some of the vibration but if you don't mount it well you'll still get it.
