landcruiser exhaust upgrade

Post by jakwoo39 »

i am currently doing a SOA conversion on my bj74 landcruiser and at the moment my exhaust comes out the side behind the rear passenger wheel, but it goes between the chassis and leaf spring to get there
and because i have lowered my springs for the soa it will hit the exhaust now
since the fuel tank will prevent it coming out the back my next idea was infront of the rear tyre

is this legal? it will be behind the doors but i was told it had to be past the body?
this is where it currently is

and this is where i want it ideally

I'm pretty sure it has to exit aft of any doors or opening windows. So you may have to seal up the sliding rear window.

See what the WOF man says first. I did it in my FJ40 and just wired the catch closed to keep them happy. If there are no back seats fitted, they may not be too fussy. It depends how much the inspector uses his judgement rather than a rigid rule book. It's why I get my WOFs from an old-school mechanic at a rural garage rather than a VTNZ testing station - they're actually tougher on safety-related stuff like brakes, steering, suspension, but sensible about the silly stuff

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

if its going thru cert maybe talk to your cert man? i had a side dump on my 70 series drivers side,(only did 2 inch, should have done 2 1/2, sounded like a beasty MF tractor haha!!) got wof no trouble, but i did hear/read something recently about side dumps becoming illegal irrespective.... but hey, just do it if the cert man say sits ok, it really opens them up!!
